Fiche technique

  • Fabricant : Clouds Hill Effects
  • Modèle : Echo Floppy Disk Delay
  • Catégorie : Delays / échos pour guitare
  • Fiche créée le : 13/05/2016

THE ECHO - Clouds Hill Floppy Disc Delay is a one of a kind analog echo:
- The first and yet only echo driven by a diskette.
- The echo is generated by a 3,5“ diskette.
- A purely analog, flexible and magnetic storage medium also known as Floppy Disc. The signal is written on the disc by a magnetizing record head and replayed/erased by two reproduction heads and one erase head of a cassette player.
- The Floppy Disc is driven by a Digital Drive System Tapedeck motor that runs with 12VDC - variable stabilized speed with additional foot pedal control or cv/gate control.

ANALOG TAPE ECHO SYSTEM
- The circular distance between record head and play head is 207mm.
- The size of the disc and the position of the heads in combination allows echoes from a length of 0,06 seconds up to 1,6 seconds.

SPEED
- 0 - 400 RPM equals to:
- Tape Speed: 0 - 171 cm/sec
- Delay at 30 RPM (Play head 1) = 1,6 sec
- Delay at 30 RPM (Play head 2) = 0,8 sec
- Delay at 400 RPM (Play head 1) = 0,12 sec
- Delay at 400 RPM (Play head 2) = 0,06 sec

DIGITAL DRIVE SYSTEM
- The motor runs in four different operation modes that are controllable by a regular expression pedal or a CV signal:
- Acceleration Mode
- Break Mode
- Tapemachine Age Simulation Mode
- Random Tape Machine Error Simulation Mode

OTHER TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
- Preamp = JFET input stage
- Impedance = low, > 1MΩ
- Gain Adjust

POWER CONSUMPTION
- 10W

DIMENSIONS
- Size 222mm x 145mm x 55mm (WxDxH)
- Weight 1,36Kg

IN OPERATION
- Unlike the common bucket brigade delays or tape echoes, the sound of the disc is much more radical. - It´s an extremely versatile unit, capable of a wide variety of unique effects. With the Clouds Hill Echo you will be able to realize uncompromising start and stop sounds as well as swirling and warm atmospheric sounds.
- Featuring expanded control voltage (CV) capabilities that allow for interactions beyond the simple stacking of effects, Clouds Hill Echo can be controlled by other CV capable devices.
- The PEDAL
- C/V switch selects between expression pedal and C/V-Gate input. C/V works similar to the pedal and Gate takes control over the Motor ON/OFF functionality.
- The motor and it´s four operation modes can be controlled by a regular expression pedal.

BYPASS STOMP SWITCH
- True bypasses the signal.

MOTOR STOMP SWITCH
- As soon as you push the switch, the motor starts with a howling sound as you hear the signal accelerate to speed. As soon as the switch is released, the motor stops and the echo squashes.

MOTOR ON / OFF TOGGLE SWITCH
- Sets the Echo in two different modes. In "Motor On"-mode, the Motor Stomp Switch will stop the disc rotating and in "Motor Off“-mode, the Motor Stomp Switch will accelerate the motor.

UNMUTE TOGGLE SWITCH
- Sets the Echo in two different modes. In “Mute”-mode, the pressed Mute Tap Stomp Switch mutes the Echo and lets the original signal pass without echo. In “Unmute“-mode the pressed Mute Tap Stomp Switch lets you hear the echo.

MUTE TAP STOMP SWITCH
- Depending on the position of the Unmute Toggle Switch, the echo appears or cuts by pressing the switch.

GAIN

- Instrument Input Gain

THE PEDAL - C/V SWITCH
- selects between expression pedal and C/V-Gate input. C/V works similar to the pedal and Gate takes control over the Motor ON/OFF functionality.

MAIN
- Main Output Volume

BLEND WET / DRY
- Blends between Echo and original signal

FEEDBACK
- (How much of the output is re-applied at the input). Controls how long the delayed signal takes to decay.

HEAD A
- Turns on/off reproduction head A

HEAD B
- Turns on/off reproduction head B

MODE SELECTOR
Sets the Echo´s expression pedal or C/V in four different modes:

  1. ACCELERATION MODE - Expression pedal controls the speed of the Echo and functions like a car´s gas pedal. Pushed down the echo gets faster.

  2. BREAK MODE - Expression pedal controls the speed of the Echo and functions like a car´s break. Pushed down the echo gets slower.

  3. TAPEMACHINE AGE SIMULATION MODE - As the digital drive system can imitate different maintenance conditions. From well serviced machine with no flutter and wobble and good synchronization to a machine in very bad condition with lots of howling, flutter and uneven synchronization. The expression pedal functions as a controlling device to set the digital drive system´s frequency of errors that makes the echo jump up or down in an unpredictable way.

  4. RANDOM TAPE MACHINE ERROR SIMULATION MODE - Pushed down the expression pedal raises the frequency of how often random errors appear.

SPEED
- Sets Echo speed

MAGIC EYE
Depending on which mode ECHO is set by the Mode Selector Switch, the Magic Eye by flashing in different colours shows
- Echo speed
- Frequency of errors
- Frequency of random errors

INPUT
- Instrument Input

ECHO OUTPUT
- Echo Output

DRY OUTPUT
- Output with no echo signal

CV INPUT
- Full CV capabilities allow you to control echo time or maintenance status (depending on Mode setting) with any external source.

PEDAL INPUT
- Input for an expression pedal. Expression pedal must follow the “wiper to tip” standard.

15V DC INPUT
- Clouds Hill Echo comes with a 15 Volt/1 Ampere power supply with automatic impedance bridging and exchangeable plugs so it can be used in (almost) very country in the world. The Clouds Hill Echo was designed to operate using your typical centre positive, regulated 15 VDC power supply. The pedal is protected against reversed polarity and overvoltage conditions. If using a different power supply always check your device for proper voltage and polarity before connecting. There is no battery connection inside the pedal.
