MBox 2 m'a donné les questions

The Digidesign Mbox 2 is an interface that I had my eye on for quite a while after the original Mbox was a great buy for me. So I just right in and purchased it, one of the things that I liked about it a lot was the handle that it has on it, made it easy for carrying. But then I felt the knobs on the front of the unit and they art very cheap felling. They are plastic and didn’t feel as well built as the rest of the unit. If you purchase the Mbox 2 in a bundle you will get all the goods including iLok and a ton of good plug ins to use like Maxim and moogerfooger.

    UTILIZATION

Latency was very minimal but the drivers gave me huge issues. I was installing drivers left and right trying to get this thing to work, and these were not updates they are the drivers that came with it. It was really a pain on my laptop I was running Windows Vista, after numerous attempts I finally just called the tech support for Digidesign and had them walk me through it. It still took a couple tries with them.

    GETTING STARTED

I had a lot of compatibility issues with Mbox 2 , it was crazy because Mbox 1 was so easy to install and actually I still own the original Mbox I just don’t use it anymore. I have traded in the Mbox 2 about 4 months after owning it because it was so much of a hassle to use it. I really wanted it to work but I didn’t want to deal with the driver issue. After spending aver 7 hundred dollars on a bundle I was really frustrated with the Mbox 2.

    OVERALL OPINION

The Driver issues where a deal breaker for me and that’s the reason that I don’t recommend using it if you have a windows computer. If you are on a Mac then it will probably work better from what I heard, but I would choose the original Mbox over the Mbox 2 any day!

    Niveau d'entrée décent pré

The Mbox 2 is probably the most popular pre that Digidesign has offered throughout the years. This model is meant for the beginning recording artist due to its price point and features. The preamp features 4 inputs, 2 outputs, MIDI, USB, phantom power, S/PDIF and a few other things tucked up its sleeve. One of the biggest things this one comes with is Pro Tools LE.

    UTILIZATION

Dididesign did a decent job with this preamp. On the plus sides, everything is contained in a nice, small box. There are no breakout cables for certain connections like other preamps on the market. That means mininal wiring mess and less overall strain on the ports. The device is also very easy to set up, so no issues there. On the down side, it has USB. I'm not a fan of USB preamps due to latency issues once you start adding plugins in the DAW. You'll constantly be adjusting the buffer size or just recording without any serious plugins on the buss.

    GETTING STARTED

The device is very easy to use. Simply plug in the components into their corresponding ports, install Pro Tools LE and you're good to go. Pro Tools LE might be a bit daunting at first for those who have never used a professional DAW before, but there are some nice quick start guides that'll help you throughout the process. There shouldn't be any compatibility issues out there with this device as it works on both PCs and Macs.

    OVERALL OPINION

I generally don't recommend this pre as much as others simply because it has USB 2.0. The pre itself sounds decent for the price, but there's still some congestion going on, and if you can afford a nicer preamp with firewire, I'd check that one out instead. However, if you're working on a limited budget and can only use USB devices, this isn't too terrible to use.
