Hey Scarabee.nc, the Virtones is different from MOD.

MOD does not uses VST. It uses LV2, similar to VST but open standard. It means that there is already a great community of developers (LAD – Linux Audio Developers - http://linuxaudio.org/) creating plug-ins in LV2.
We presented MOD in Germany last month in LAC (Linux Audio Conference) and the developers gave us a great feedback about MOD. We now know we are in the right way supporting that amazing community.


With MOD you can connect the pedals anyway you want and decide which button will control each effect. You can create Parallel or chain connections, splitting the signal or converging them to one single effect. The possibilities are infinite.

We also have a huge library of free effects ready to install in the MOD. (check our ever-growing effects library at: http://portalmod.com/#/plugins)

MOD also supports the developer community since it opens a feedback channel from the users to the developers.
We will also have a plug-in store so the developers can sell their effects and be encouraged to keep producing new and unusual effects.

The MOD users can Share a sample of their sound using their own pedalboard in our social network. When you share the sample, a video showing your pedals and highlighting which one is being used is generated and send to Vimeo, then you can also share it directly on Facebook. About the sound quality. We projected and produced the MOD Duo soundboard and all the components are the best in the market, to make sure we have the best sound a digital pedalboard can have with no perceptible latency!

MOD is not only a digital multi-effect pedalboard! It’s a computer, optimized for sound processing. It means that it runs an Operational System, optimized by us, so we can have much more than only sound effects. We will have sound recorders, plug-ins for collective creations, especific plug-ins for schools to address classes directly to their students, live streaming, sample sharing and much, much more!

One other important thing.
We decide to launch MOD Duo through crowd funding at Kickstarter.com, so we have a scale to produce a better product in a lower price. With MOD Quadra (our first product) we produced only 30 pieces in Brazil and at that scale prices rise sharply. On top of it, the production was set up in Brazil and that makes everything even more expensive.
The MOD Duo already is a better product than the QUADRA and will cost less than half of the price. That is also because we use an open standard inside MOD. It’s a Linux optimized for sound processing.

Wow… I wrote a lot. But I hope I explained a little about our concept here.
We are looking for a new way to democratize the sound effect creation and distribution. Just like an app store, where you install amazing apps created by different developers around the world.

C'est marrant - et inquiétant - en regardant cette vidéo de voir comment les marques communiquent sur leur produit:
La technologie domine tellement que la musique n' est plus vraiment importante,
elle n'est là que pour une seule raison:
Permettre de vendre et donner l' envie.
Regardez la séquence répé, le batteur ( ou clavier chépu ) la tronche dans sa tablette,
zéro communication entre eux... c'est cela la vie ?
Tant que la pub continuera à me prendre pour un crétin je déciderai moi même de mes besoins.

J'ai une grosse attente de ce côté. C'est quand même plus pratique qu'un Receptor. Par contre ayant possédé une v-machine m'ayant rendu fou, j'espère vraiment que le travail de débogage a été fait comme il se doit. La compatibilité est aussi une question à voir lorsqu'il s'agit de petits éditeurs de plugs. J'ai personnellement galéré comme un fou pour faire à moitié fonctionner ma v- machine.

Le projet me paraît intéressant à plus d'un titre, et notamment par l'utilisation de Linux et des plugins libres donc modifiables à volonté, mais sans le côté "mains dans le cambouis tout le temps" de Linux. En fait il s'agit plus de faire de la musique que de passer son temps à régler l'ordi et le dépanner ;), contrairement à ce que laisserait croire la vidéo.

Par contre je n'en aurais pas l'utilité, ne faisant pas de scène et ayant déjà Ubuntustudio/tangostudio à la maison : je branche ma guitare dans la carte son, je passe 15 mn à configurer QJackctrl, lancer Guitarix, choisir les effets, connecter le tout, relancer une ou deux fois parce que cela a planté car j'ai mal choisi le pilote de carte son, et je peux jouer. Il y a peut-être un progrès quand même dans leur système... mrgreenmrgreenmrgreen

Enfin, je ne pense pas que ce soit réellement limité aux plugins LV2, puisque Linux connaît aussi des hôtes VST qu'il ne doit pas être bien difficile d'installer, ou un hôte windows avec un wineasio quelconque.

Pour ce qui est des petits éditeurs de plugs et des vieux plugins freeware, je remarque juste que la suite d'effets a été mise à jour en mars 2014, c'est pas très vieux.

Le LV2, c'est la deuxième génération de LADSPA, en soi assez récent aussi (voir sur Linuxmao par exemple)

Et je télécharge la suite d'effets (hors GX, effets Guitarix déjà inclus dans ce que j'ai) pour faire des essais, en attendant la sortie du duo.

 On voit sur les spécifications du quadra un port midi avec prise 5 broches (DIN j'imagine) donc on peut supposer que le port MIDI sera présent aussi sur le duo, indépendamment de la connexion RJ45 utilisée pour le contrôleur/pédale.

reste ensuite à voir comment est exploité ce port midi, et si en particulier les effets proposés utilisent le MIDI CLOCK pour de la synchronisation, par exemple un vibrato ou un delay, synchros avec le reste des machines etc...

What we have on our website is a promotional video. We tried to explain how it works in the most practical way, with less than 3 minutes and with no extra bullshit in it!
Of course the band members talk to each other before playing, and of course we know that all of you would understand that this is a promotional video and not a real life picture.

Your concerned is our concerned as well.
We have 13 people working full time on MOD, developing, debugging and supporting the MOD users. The OS gets update monthly and any issue, bug or usability error gets fixed right away.

Hi Hhub92, you are totally right. Our system is in constantly progress, we still need a lot to do, but don’t worry. We want musicians to play their instrument and not spend too much time setting up the MOD.
MOD comes with several pedals installed inside of it! You open the box, plug it and play! If you want to create crazy pedalboards then you connect your computer to the MOD through bluetooth or RJ45 cable and have fun! You don’t need internet to create the pedalboards.
You will only need an internet connection if you want to install new effects from our library (free install) or share your pedalboard.
Unfortunately today MOD runs only LV2 plug-ins. And you are right again. LV2 means: LADSPA version2!

The MOD Quadra (our first product) already has a MIDI input and the MOD Duo (our second product) will have MIDI input and output.
We are creating a plug-in that converts audio to MIDI. You can plug your guitar and have a piano sound. So far the test are monophonic, but we are working to have chords as well.
For MOD Duo we projected and developed the soundboard, so technically it’s a better project (more optimized for sound processing) than MOD Quadra. The price will be less than half of the MOD Quadra because we will intend to have scale using crowd funding and we will produce it in the US.
The MOD Quadra was produced in Brazil and the taxes here are too high!
