UTILIZATION

The guitar itself is pretty bad. Honestly. It feels very cheap, like the quality of most people's first guitars. The LED learning system works like a charm, but the quality of the guitar detracts from it.

SOUNDS

Eh. This guitar doesn't particularly sound good. It's like a pawnshop special in terms of the quality of the pickups and sound-producing electronics. It would sorely benefit from some good Duncan or similar aftermarket pickups. I never swapped mine out because I felt the overall package of the guitar was lacking in quality.

OVERALL OPINION

The rating of 7s overall is a compromise. The learning system would be rated a 10, but the guitar itself is not that good. It has the same type of quality as a $150 Squier - the workmanship is inexact, the paint isn't incredible, the hardware is cheap, and the pickups are crap. So, given that this is a learning system, as well as a guitar, I average the two qualities together to make a level of a 7 for the review. I wish I could try the higher end models that Optek offers, so I could see if they meet the quality standards I feel the learning system deserves.
