The Nady TCM 1150 is a vacuum tube condenser microphone designed for use in recording studios. This exact mic has floated around out there under a few different names as it has been put out by a number of companies. The most popular one is the Apex 460, but I also used to have one made by Stellar and have seen others as well. These are made in China and sold in bulk to companies that then redistribute them under different names, including what Nady has done here with the TCM 1150. To drive the point home - this is the exact same microphone as the Apex 460! It's got a switchable pick up pattern switch on the power supply which allows you to choose between cardioid, figure eight, and omnidirectional, and a even a few half way points in between these. The mic comes with it's own power supply, it's own 7 pin XLR cable, and a padded case, which is the same package you'll find with the Apex 460 and others.
OVERALL OPINION
The Nady TCM 1150 is actually a pretty good tube condenser microphone for the money. Before buying, you should definitely know that this is the same as the Apex 460 (and other out there), so do some research in order to insure you're getting the best price on this mic, although the 460 and TCM 1150 seem to be sold at pretty much the same rate. I've used the TCM 1150 specfically for vocals, but have used the 460 for acoustic piano, room mics, and a variety of other applications. It is definitely a cool sounding microphone and it's nice that you can choose between different pick up patterns. I wouldn't use it as my go to mic, but in a home studio setting it's definitely a lot of value for your money as it can be used for a variety of purposes. Check out the Nady TCM 1150 if you're after a quality but cheap tube condenser, but don't forgot to look it up under the Apex 460 and others as well!
