« Decent practice amp »

The Fender Frontman 15g is a small 15 watt solid state practice combo with two channels, a shared EQ, and auxiliary and headphone inputs. It features classic Fender cosmetics and is driven by a single 8 inch speaker. It's basically meant to be a tiny yet decent amp for the starting player if for someone who might need a small amp for travel or other such things. What it lacks in major features it makes up for with decent and surprising tone.

UTILIZATION

Getting a good sound out of this amp is not difficult. Fender geared it towards beginning players so it has a very easy to figure out interface that sounds good at most any setting. Despite its small size the amp packs a nice wallop in its punch... definitely surprising for a practice amp. The cleans are good and the drive tones are great as well. It works good with various guitars too.

SOUNDS

I find that this amp sounded its best with humbuckers to really thicken up the tone. I found single coils to sound good but they could be too bright at times, which is frustrating on a Fender style amp. The clean tones are decent with a nice warmth to them, surprising for solid-state. It can be a bit flat sounding at times but mostly it sounds pretty good there. The drive tones have a nice bit of snarl and bite. The vibe is looser and more vintage than certain other practice amps, great for classic and hard rock. It has a nice singing quality to the midrange that is great for rock or shred lead work too.

OVERALL OPINION

All in all I think the Fender Frontman 15g is a good litle practice amp for someone looking for a reasonable Fendery clean tone and a cool drive sound in one package. They can be had for around $50 used which is a great value for the money in my opinion. Definitely worth a look!
