« EEhhhh not great »

The tech 21 power engine 60 W 12 inch speaker and amplifier is a decent little solid-state amplifier. Tech 21 is known for their very great sounding preamp foot pedals mostly. However they do build some decent sounding solid-state amps for the budget musician. Nothing spectacular but there a good little introduction for someone he's just learning how to play the electric guitar. It doesn't have any tubes in it so it has a sterile and processed sound.

SOUNDS

The tone of these amplifiers is a very solid-state tone. You won't have that tube push or distortion that you would get from tube breakup. It's going to be a tone that some people will like over a tube distortion sound but you just don't have that feel and punch that is so amazing in a tube amplifier. So if you've ever spent anytime with the tube amplifier or you play one prominently then this is not to be an amp for you. It's 60 W of power so it does generate a lot of loud volume. It has a few different features but nothing spectacular as in any way shape or form compared to say a Roland solid-state or Peavey solid-state amplifier. You can hook up some effects to this amplifier and get away with a lot of cool sounds when you cook up different pedals to it. Overall it's a decent amp at this price so it's not that bad of a pick up.

OVERALL OPINION

You can find these amplifiers for right around $340 which to me is a little expensive for a solid-state amplifier so I would suggest going with another brand or builder. I preferred the Peavey solid-state amplifiers because I feel like they have a lot more options and more versatility. Play it before you purchase and you will do your self a favor in time and money.
