The Valley Audio Gain Brain II is a single channel compressor that is often found within the Valley Audio lunch box rack. It is an all analog unit and it has the capabilities to be placed within the Valley Audio designed lunch box rack system. It is not your standard rack mountable unit.
UTILIZATION
The configuration of the Valley Audio Gain Brain II is very easy to follow, as it contains all the basic parameters that are found on compressors. It has knobs for release, attack, range/gain, ratio, and threshold. It also has a meter for attenuation, and a switch to choose between different modes. I don't have the manual for the Valley Audio Gain Brain II, but it is easy enough to use that a manual isn't needed.
SOUND QUALITY
The Valley Audio Gain Brain II compressor has a great sound to it and is especially awesome for drums. However, it great for a number of applications in addition to drums including electric guitar, acoustic guitar, vocals, and bass guitar. Since the parameters are pretty universal for a compressor, anyone with previous experience with a compressor should be able to figure out how to use this without any problems.
OVERALL OPINION
I've been using the Valley Audio Gain Brain II for about a year and I've found it to be a great piece of gear. It is easy to use and has a great sound quality to it, not to mention that it can be used on a truly wide array of different instruments. I don't really have any complaints about the Valley Audio Gain Brain II and even the price is pretty reasonable. While it isn't the cheapest compressor out there by a long shot, it is cheap enough that home studio owners could make these their top tier compressors if they wanted to get a few of then. Overall, highly recommend for those interested in a great compressor.
