- moosersPublié le 22/01/10 à 05:54 (contenu en anglais)The Manley Langevin Pultec EQP-1A is a stereo reincarnation of the classic Pultec EQP-1A equalizer. While it doesn’t have the same look, it is supposed to have a pretty similar make up to the original. I’m not sure of what types of connections it has since the one that I’ve used was already rack up in the studio that I used it in. The EQP-1A will take up two rack spaces in a traditional rack case.
UTILIZATION

If you’ve got experience with parametric equalization, the Manley Langevin Pultec EQP-1A won’t present any problems for you as far as utilization goes. The EQ is split up into a few different sections. Each of the channels has a low frequency section, a high frequency section, and a cut section. The low frequency section has boost and cut parameters, and a knob to choose between five different low end fixed frequencies ranging from 20 to 120 Hz. The high frequency section has boost and bandwidth parameters along with fixed frequency selector, but this time you’ve got a lot more frequencies to choose from (about 10). Lastly, the cut section allows you to cut at five different frequencies. Unless you’re unfamiliar with how parametric EQs function, a manual isn’t necessary.
SOUND QUALITY

The overall tone quality of the Manley Langevin Pultec EQP-1A is pretty outstanding. It is true to the make up of the original, and definitely has a comparable sound quality, although I’ve never had a chance to shoot them out. The tone is extremely clean, and won’t color your sound other than what you ask it to do. They couldn’t say it if it wasn’t true, and this is definitely a bonafide copy of the original.
OVERALL OPINION
This is great idea by the people at Manley, as it makes the classic Pultec sound available for anyone who wants it without having to seek out and pay a fortune for one. Don’t get me wrong, as this will cost a considerable amount of money, just not as much as the original Pultec EQP-1A. For professional studio owners looking to get a piece of the Pultec sound with modern day casing and reliability, the Manley Langevin Pultec EQP-1A is something you need to look into.32
