we have solved the Windows XP SP2 problem. With the new driver 1.1 and
the new firmware 1.36, the Fireface will work even with Windows XP SP2
without further tweaks.
As reported, XP SP2 more or less disables all FireWire 800 devices by
reducing their speed to S100 (100 MBit/s). As always, RME have hardware
and software under full control, making it possible to change the speed
to S400. With this, the Fireface 800 is fully functional, operating in
the same way as when using a FireWire 400 connection.
Of course, this fix only helps the Fireface. To be able to use FW 800
hard disks etc. satisfactorily requires to reinstall the old SP1
ohci1394.sys. We will upload a Tech Info soon where we explain how to do
this in detail. It's not very complicate, and also brings back the
ability to use a Fireface PLUS a harddrive, or multiple Firefaces,
without running into bandwidth limitations.
Driver 1.1 also brings these changes:
- ASIO: Lost Buffer Detection in Samplitude/Sequoia 8 fixed
- ASIO: Noise at start of Cubase2/Nuendo2 removed
- ASIO: Channel Status display for analog and ADAT inputs removed
- Hundreds of other small improvements
The FUT 1.36 also brings:
- Digital ADAT receiver exchanged with new version
To sum it up: we not only have the first FireWire 800 audio device, but
also the first one being compatible to Windows XP SP2. RME as you know
them...
