Hello Buchla family,

We are excited to bring you an update on our quest to bring the Buchla Music Easel back into production! In June, we announced that preorders were open for the Easel Modern and Retro variants, as well as the 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Music Easel. Many Buchla users have placed preorders and secured their place in line to be some of the first to receive one of the three varieties of new Music Easel.

The Buchla team knows just how excited so many of you are for the return of the Easel, and we are quickly approaching the big day when the first Music Easel Modern will roll off of the assembly line, followed closely by the Anniversary and Retro, so we wanted to give you an inside look into the work we are doing to prepare for this momentous launch.

One of the key development challenges that we decided to take on with this new generation of Buchla Music Easels, specifically for the modern variant, was designing a companion module for the legendary 208c voice. Meet the Electric Music Box IO, affectionately referred to as the "EMBIO," exclusive to the Music Easel Modern, which features key audio and control voltage utilities, such as mixing, an LFO, attenuversion, and the same useful MIDI IO present on the Easel Command, Retro, and Anniversary. PCBs for the EMBIO are currently receiving their final touches before they will be installed into the suitcases which will house the first production run of the Easel Modern.

This week, the custom molded suitcases that will house the first production run of the Music Easel Modern arrived at Buchla in Emeryville, California. These cases were designed based on experience learned from the last run of Music Easels from 2013-18. Not only do they make it quicker to set up and start playing, but having all connections based on the front panel is a major design improvement over that last run, so when you close your Easel case, it's sealed from the outside world, keeping your patch safe.

With the Music Easel Retro, we challenged ourselves to design a durable and slick-looking briefcase from the ground up that was both true to the design and spirit of the original Zero Halliburton case used by Don Buchla to construct some of the earliest examples of the Music Easel, while also being conducive to housing a modern, improved version of the Easel.

And last but not least, the final quantity of 50th Anniversary Edition Music Easels being produced has been set at 50 units for the world, almost all of which are pre-sold. The Zero Halliburton cases are in production and shipping to Buchla HQ in December. The interior metal framing is currently being cut, stamped, and powder-coated here in California. Exclusive gold 218 touchplates are getting their final dielectric coating in Colorado. The Electric Weasel Ensemble double LP from Important Records has been mastered and sequenced, and we are finalizing the artwork for the vinyl sleeve (although the state of vinyl production means the special gold LP may likely ship to you separately from your instrument, at a later date). There is still more work to be done, but this historic edition is coming together beautifully.

Finally, we want to give an official update on ETAs for our preorder customers-
