Alexander Hinz(K O R G Product Specialist)

Hi Alexander,

I am a bit sceptic about future development on Korg Oasys!!!

I am really looking for orchestral sounds for my Oasys in order to produce movie tracks and the only sound bank I found and purchased was issued by KARO Sounds Company.
I am taking the opportunity to congratulate them with a warm “Thank You” especially in their development effort for this machine.

I am a bit disappointed in the way that with a device having astonishing capacities likes the Oasys some sounds like French Horns and classical programs like Horns and Brass sounds so poor.
It would be so nice to have an additional sound bank with the same quality as Epic Horns or Brass and Woodwinds issued by VSL.

How is it that we can’t even reach Kurzweil warming sound and impressive capacities that KDFX is offering?

Even to get strings of good quality we have to look against an external company to get additional sounds and because of “Korg policy” the Karo sound bank needs to be reloaded at each restart.
If it is not on your interest to continue development for the Oasys please at least try to give the means to third companies by sharing the technology on how to create real EXS libraries or even an EXi instruments for the Oasys.

I am sure that guys like KARO Team would be able to issue astounding and good quality sound banks for the benefit of Oasys users.

If development are just stopped for the Oasys and no effort is going to be done on quality of Orchestral instruments I am afraid I will resell my 88 keys Oasys and by the complete set of the Vienna Symphonic Instruments and for the price I bought the Oasys I will even have extra money to purchase an additional and powerful MAC.

Kindly forward this mail to your development team or just delete it but consider that I am certainly not the only one of your customers having this feeling on the Oasys.

With best Regards

Dear Mr. Fama !

Thank you for your kind and detailed mail.

First of all I would like to assure you that OASYS
is an ongoing projekt with quite a high priority.

I think KORG showed in the last month with serveral updates
and new options that OASYS is an important product for
the company. Many new upcoming technologies will be based
on the OASYS technologie and so the OASYS system will be
spread even wider than bevor in the world market.

Anyway, KORG is a small company allthough with big efforts, so it
takes time to develope all the features and options that
our customers are asking for. Of course there is a plan
for the next months and years what we will do with the
projekt. Many ideas and whishes are on the list and it is
a big challenge to decide what to do next. Sometimes the plan
changes due to serveral reasons or even new ideas, so I really can not
tell you any further details.

Please be assure that the OASYS projekt will take a big part
in future KORG development plans.

Regarding the selection of internal sounds I have to say that
also these decisions are a great challenge. Even such a powerfull
instrument like OASYS has limitations in the end. So we need to make
compromises here. In the first step the fathers of OASYS decided to
focus much more on the incredebile synth capabilities, much than on
extrem natural sounds (the Akustik Grand is one of the big exeptions of course).
So that might be the reason why you have the
feeling that some sound categories are stronger than others.
Anway KORG is already busy to fill up these weaker categories in the future.
And of course you are always free to source additional sounds
from third party companys. As you know just like TRITONS or the
new M3, OASYS is able to handle quite a lot of different sample formats,
allthough we know that it could always be more.

By the way, I think that in the first days of OASYS the decision
was made against orchester and string sounds, because there
are very good librarys on the market already, so I guess many people
inside KORG are still thinking that these kind of sounds are not
the most important ones to have for most of the customers. And also you mentioned that
there are already good solutions on the market. So the focus was not
really there, even more because it is already today possible to use
these soundlibrarys with OASYS.

I hope that you will find a personal way to satisfy your needs with OASYS
and you will be patiently enough with KORG to see the projekt
growing step by step, which is maybe the biggest piece of
work and a real challenge in the synth industrie these days. We all want to see this progress
coming up with more speed, however KORG does already what is possible.

Best regards from Germany,

Frank Sawusch

PS: One last thing: One very important factor for the OASYS projekt
to compete against other technologies is system stability. Thats why
KORG is very scared regarding the idea of completly open up the system to third
party developers without having 100% control of the code and the quality control. I think
OS stability is very important for every OASYS customer.
Thats why we are working with some well known industrie partners to create a solid
way of producing and distributing OASYS options. I am sure
there will be many interesting oportunitys in the future.

Hi Antonio,

Thank you for this information. We always know that the open source has much more secrets. So I think Korg has in some point right, because the system stability is very important. We got yesterday an official statement from Korg USA, see the attached file.

I think we are right on the way. If we got a startup possibility for the sample libraries it is enough to start the stuff while the machine is booting.

Now I think it is important that we create the right sound libs. Three new CD´s are on the way of course, but I can not tell you at the moment much more.

Also the new Phil Update Ver 3.1 is a major update. Full range with 128 patches, new samples, keyrange with near always 76 keys, sounds and chord on the pads and much more. I only can say please be patient new sounds are in the pipeline.

Best wishes.

Oliver
