A nice transatlantic cocktail.
Publié le 11/11/20 à 20:34Pity about the previous review. I can't say I agree with it.
I bought this on the strength of a description I found on the net.
Back in the 1970s I used AC30s extensively playing in local bands. It was ideal for my purposes playing rock, psyche rock and electric blues. Since then I've acquired the taste for Fender amps. I currently run a '59 reissue Bassman 4x10, but I find it too powerful for smaller gigs. So I bought the TB35C2 and I'm delighted with it. I did a modification however.
It arrived with a pair of Celestion 12" speakers, and frankly I found it a bit shouty and heavy to transport. So I changed the Celestions for a pair of Jensen ceramic-drive 12"s, and while this made the...…

So I changed the Celestions for a pair of Jensen ceramic-drive 12"s, and while this made the enclosure much lighter, it also gave a more creamy, Fender-ish tone which pleased me greatly.
So now I have a 2x12 35w Vox, which is capable of covering the same kind of tonal ground as the Bassman, but on a usefully smaller scale. It has a lot of possibilities with the controls, but generally I'm looking for a fat, low-mid rich, compressed dynamic with some sharp top available for cut-through and rhythmic playing, and it does all that very willingly. It has a nice, warm and complex reverb (which the Bassman doesn't), and it responds very readily to changes in guitar volume, and also to my TS9 Tubescreamer. (I play mostly strat and tele.) A major advantage over the Bassman is the presence of a master volume, which doesn't wash-out the tone until it's turned down a lot. So - unlike the Bassman - it doesn't scare drummers, unless you want it to.
Thus, unlike the guy in the last review - who can't figure out what it's for - I can tell you it's for me! I love it. Warm and edgy Fender sound (4x6v6) with a high-mid AC30 UK bias whenever you want it. A success. Well-done Vox, well-done Tony Bruno !

EEEHhh je vais passer!
Publié le 09/06/11 à 22:19 (contenu en anglais)The only difference in this and the TB35C1 is that is has an extra speaker. You get the same features and lack of tone as you do in the 1x12 version, but just in a bigger cab and an extra speaker.
This amp is very mediocre. Nothing about this amp screams buy me or play me at all. They get this amp designer whom I have never heard of to design their amps for them because they seem to forget how now shipping basically everything to China now. This is the Tony Bruno designed amp with the tone of a classic Vox but it is nothing special in tone features or anything.

Nothing about this amp tells me that Vox has really changed anything and is going back to the old. I have no idea where this is made but my guess is in China since they could care less about tone and quality anymore. Since Vox changed manufacturing about 5 years ago they're amps have really gone down hill. There are some still hits but the quality and craftsmanship is no longer in existence.
OVERALL OPINION
This amp is a waste of time and money if you want a good Vox tone. Search the used market and pick up a UK made one from a few years back. Or get a Divided BY 13 AC30 version amp. Hayseed amps made a great clone of an original or if you feel like selling you arm or leg then get a newly manufactured JMI amp. They are only about $4500. That price is just ludicrous!
At new this amp come in at around $1399 and why it priced that high is because TB has to take a cut too. That comes with the signature series type amp from any manufacturer, the problem is who the heck is this guy?
