The Master Audio DPU-3K6 was developed in 1996 toghether with the MD speaker systems. It features the possibility of using processing cards in order to optimize the speaker performance by means of equalization, phase alignment, sonic filters, crossovers and limiters.

Combined with the Master Audio MD Series of loudspeakers, the DPU-3K6 constantly measures the temperature of the voice coils through the SENSE system, a separate cable connection providing feedback from the speakers to the DPU-3K6. If the temperature becomes too high, the Thermal Protection Circuit (TPC) of the amplifier will gradually limit the power to the speakers to protect them from overload. In this way, the full SPL peak power capacity of the speaker system can be utilized, without risk of distortion or damage to the drive units.

The processing cards enable a wide range of adjustments to fine tune sound quality, only for MD speakers, The crossover function adjusts cut and slope. Active subsonic and supersonic filters remove unwanted signals and interference. Equalization optimizes the frequency response, and phase control includes both a reverse switch (180°) and a 0-360° fine tuning control.

Without processing cards, the DPU-3K6 will operate like any conventional amplifier, but still be efficiently protected by the advanced Clip Limiter circuitry, which is also an original development by Master Audio. The TPC and SENSE technology is exclusively for use with MD Series speakers, though, as they feature thermal sensors in the drive units.

The Class H topology is highly advanced and capable of producing 2 x 1800 W at 4 ohms and is stable down to 2 ohm. The design has no output relays, ensuring a very high damping factor (>500) and outstanding low frequency reproduction. It also incorporates a protection device for overvoltage that disconnects the amplifier from the mains if AC voltage exceeds 255 V.
