I've been using the Pearl Piccolo 14 x 4 Maple snare drum for about three years and it has become one of my favorite snare drums to use for recording. It is a pretty small snare drum in terms of height and width, which is what gives it such a great snap sound. While I am not a drummer, I have used this snare drum countless times for recording and I'm always happy with the results I get. I usually use a Shure SM 57 on top and bottom and I find with this configuration I get a balanced snare sound that has a ton of bite and fullness to it. While I have mostly used the Pearl Piccolo 14 x 4 Maple snare drum for recording, I have used it a few times in a live setting and always am pleased with the way it sounds. While some people maybe looking for a deeper, wider snare drum sound, you will have to look elsewhere for that. This is great at what it does - which is it gives you a crisp and punchy snare sound rather than a deep one. Pearl is known for making some great drum sets as well as snare drums like this one, and the Pearl Piccolo 14 x 4 Maple snare drum is one of their best snare drums in my opinion. While the price of the Pearl Piccolo 14 x 4 Maple snare drum isn't cheap, you are getting a top notch snare drum that is great for all types of music including rock, pop, and folk, which is primarily what I use it for. If I am looking for a crisp snare drum, the Pearl Piccolo 14 x 4 Maple snare drum is first place I look. Overall, another great snare drum from Pearl and I would highly recommend looking into this if you want a nice, crisp sounding snare drum.
