The Neve 8108 is a 32 channel console that has parametric EQ on each of the channels. It also has a digital routing system, which can be a bit quirky. It was made in 1979 and is the last Neve console that Rupert Neve saw over, I believe. While it has some issues, the preamps are great sounding, as is the EQ. If you can see yourself through some of the strange issues this console might sometimes have, you've got yourself a great overall sounding Neve board.
UTILIZATION
The 8108 is like any other board in that while it takes a bit of getting used to, it won't take too long to learn what everything does. The channel strips are laid out conveniently and with easy access to the EQs and preamplifers. I've never seen the manual to this but its always a good idea to have the manual of any console you are using and you never know when a board will do something unexpected.
SOUNDS
Overall, I love the way this board sounds. The preamps are extremely warm and full in tone and the EQs are top notch. They both definitley live up to the Neve name and I've gotten some really great results using this board. While sometimes the channels can get noisy, I think that is just the nature of using a board as old as this one is.
OVERALL OPINION
I've been using the Neve 8108 for about ten months and the overall sound of this board is very impressive. While it does some strange things sometimes, it usually works great and sounds great. The price of the board is actually very reasonable if you can find one used. I think the reason it is so cheap is because of the quirks it has, as it is a great sounding, legitimate Neve board. If you have the chance to use or buy one of these I would definitley consider checking it out!
