The Digitech Hot Head DDH is a digital distortion pedal. It has a single 1/4 inch connection for input and two 1/4 inch outputs. It can be powered by either a nine volt power supply or a nine volt battery and isn't a rack mountable piece of gear as it is a stomp box.
UTILIZATION
Using the Digitech Hot Head DDH isn't hard at all as it is just about as basic in make up as it gets for a pedal like this. It simply has four parameters in the form of knobs for level, low, high, and gain. This is pretty standard as far as distortion pedals go as it gives you control over the volume, the distortion, and EQ, which is seen on most basic distortion pedals. Even if you don't have much experience with distortion pedals and this if your first one, I'm confident that users will be able to figure this out quickly and for this reason I don't believe that a manual is necessary.
SOUND QUALITY
The sound quality of the Digitech Hot Head DDH isn't impressive to me at all. It comes off too tinny for my taste, even when you turn down the highs - it really just lacks a fullness that I would look for in any good distortion pedal. I'm getting a good read on what this pedal actually sounds like as I have mostly used the pedal with a Fender Strat and a '76 Fender Twin Reverb, so my sound isn't being clouded by lack of a proper guitar or amp. I just found that no matter what I would do with the settings, I just couldn't get a sound that I was happy with from the Digitech Hot Head DDH.
OVERALL OPINION
I've only used the Digitech Hot Head DDH a few times and I don't think I'll be using it again anytime soon because I simply don't like the way that it sounds. I think that if you are looking for a cheap distortion pedal, that the Boss DS-1 sounds better and is even a bit cheaper than this. This pedal is really a copy of the DS-1 in my opinion and is one that just doesn't sound as good. If you are looking for a cheap distortion pedal, I would definitely recommend looking elsewhere.
