This speaker is a must for me when mixing music. It is kind of boomy in de low mid and if my mix is muddy in the lows it will be obvious in the control 1. These speakers are good to make broad brush strokes in your mix, something you would probably avoid doing in in hi-fi speakers. The degree of detail in the low mid is not very good on the control 1 so it forces you to clean up this area in the mix. And if your mix is too dark it will be totally dull on these speakers. A good mix will sound good on control 1s. Try switching often between the main monitors and Control1 during mixdown until your mix sounds good on both and you will have a mix that will play well everywhere. If you mix using ony the Control 1s, try keeping a bit of roundness to your mix. Carving out too much low mids and boosting the highs mids to compensate for the speaker will result in a thin and harsh mix because the high mids are recessed and lasy on these boxes. They are somewhat the contrary of ND10s in that regard. Also, they are not good for tracking but useful during mixdown and editing since they will not rip your head off when you scrub audio or play something too loud by accident.
