Yes, I'm also a victim of having owned the diamond plated ex guitars ala Hetfield due to a huge metallica phase that I was once in when learning guitar. Suprised to see that the model still exists and has even branched out to the black diamond plate models and so on. Though I do believe this chrome diamond plate version is no longer available.
UTILIZATION
Though it may look like a ninja star of a body it's quite ergonomic. One can sit comfortably playing it. Upper fret access is also not too bad, it is a set neck but there isn't a huge heel hump like you'd expect, you can easily get to the 22nd fret.
Also has ESP's thin U neck contour that everybody loves! You can get anywhere with this neck with ease!
The Stop tail and Tune-0-Matic make it simple for string changes. It's a pretty guitar, with no fuss and no muss. Plain simple and meant for rockin' out!
SOUNDS
Comes equipped with official EMG 60 and 81s. What more do you need? Nothing really! Way back when, I'd have to buy a guitar and install the EMGs myself and now ESP has caught on and equipped majority of their guitars with quality pickups from both EMG or Seymour Duncan. Very good move!
This is a very thick sounding guitar since it's a all mahogany with a rosewood board. No maple cap or anything like that to brighten the sound so all you get is complete thick chunk! Awesome! Leads are great on this baby too! They come out thick clear and strong ! It's your typical EMG setup that's been around for years that Hetfield has used for years! You can't really go wrong with this type of setup!
The 60 is always great for cleans, glassy single-coil-esque sounds can be reproduced from this pickup and the leads are clear and thick.
OVERALL OPINION
Overall great guitar. Solidly built with no hassles or fuss. EMG pickups to get you kick started without having have to mod or change anything. Simple tune-0-matic setup for string changes. AWESOME look for rock or metal or anybody that wants a bit of awesome stage presence! Comfortable neck with a great sound overall. The only problem would be finding a nice gig bag that would fit this baby properly. Otherwise, you're set to rock out!
