Neumann U77 1970s - Silver occasion

Description

I am selling my Neumann U77 from the 1970s serial number 8669.

This mic is hot, it has 12 db more output gain than my U87 from the 80's.

Because of it's transformerless Fet design, it gives fast transcients, generous low mids end open high ends, so I use it mostly on gentle things like soft voice and acoustic guitar. On a regular voice, you'll have a 'direct in your face' sound.

Comes in it's original Neumann box and the original Gross Tuchel connector.

It was turned from 12v power to 48 volt by Andreas Grosser 15 years ago (famous tech in Europe for Neumann vintage mics) and it's Tuchel connector was changed for a standard XLR connector.

Since then it was maintained by Studio Gang's tech guru and co-founder Jean-Pierre Janiaud (Daft Punk engineer).

Comes in it's original Neumann box and the original Gross Tuchel connector if someone wants to use it like in the 70's...

The KK67 Serial Number xxxx capsule (same as used in Neumann U67) is a Neumann replacement capsule, that I bought 10 years ago.

It still works great but it would need a reskinning in the forthcoming years.

Thiersh in Germany can reskin a KK capsule (280 euros).

I have to sell some gears of the studio to afford a new project, so this has to go, sadly !

If you need an original Neumann z48 Shockmount, I can sell mine for additionnal 290 euros.

Released in 1968, the Neumann U77 is a rare transitional large-diaphragm condenser microphone that bridges the circuitry of the revered tube-based U67 with the new solid-state era ushered in by the U87. Designed to operate on the 12V T powering system used by European broadcasters at the time, the U77 uses the same K67 dual-diaphragm capsule, but a transformer less coupled to a FET design, housed in a body and headbasket virtually identical to the U67. Its output is slightly hotter than the U87, with a touch more saturation and character when pushed, making it prized by engineers who want the musicality of a U67 with the speed and clarity of a FET circuit. Never sold commercially to the general public, the U77 was produced in extremely limited quantities; estimates suggest fewer than 500 units exist, making it one of the most elusive Neumann microphones ever made. Its sonic profile is detailed yet warm, with the classic forward midrange and controlled high-end Neumann mics are known for. Popular among European broadcasters and collectors, the U77 has become a cult favourite among engineers who’ve had the chance to use one.
