- moosersPublié le 31/10/09 à 21:44 (contenu en anglais)The Tube Tech MMC 1A is an analog, tube based channel strip that has a mic pre amp and a three band compressor. It has XLR connections in the back and a 1/4 inch input in the front if you want to plug your instrument directly into it. It is a rack mountable piece of gear and will take up two rack spaces.
UTILIZATION
The make up of the Tube Tech MMC 1A is unique, but at the same time if you have experience with mic pres and compressors, you will definitely recognize a lot of the parameters on here and should be able to adapt quickly. On the left side of the unit, it has parameters for the mic pre, which includes knobs for mic gain and mic line, and it has switches for impedance, phase, pad, phantom power, low cut, and a switch to choose either the mic or line input. Each of the three bands of compression has parameters for threshold, ratio, gain, attack, and release, and there are x-over multipliers for both high and low. There is also an overall output level knob and a compression bypass switch. I haven't seen the manual for this piece of gear, so I can't say if it would be helpful or not.
SOUND QUALITY
The sound quality of the Tube Tech MMC 1A is very impressive overall. I don't have any complaints as both the multi-band compressor and the mic pre are great sounding and have an extremely full and warm tone quality. The pre is great for recording just about anything, as is the compressor. I love having the control over three different bands of comrpession, as it allows me to zero in on a specific compression if that is what I am looking for. I love tracking vocals with this because it not only has the great sounding mic pre, but if I want to track with compression I can get a really specific tone as far as compression goes.
OVERALL OPINION
Overall, the Tube Tech MMC 1A is a very impressive piece of gear. It has a stellar tone quality and provides enough parameters to make it quite a versatile channel strip. The price is reasonable, but since it is a top notch piece of gear it does have a large price tag and is probably best suited for large studios and professionals as I believe it is out of the price range for most home studios. However, if you are a home studio owner looking to spend a good amount of money on a great channel strip to track with, I would absolutely recommend checking out the Tube Tech MMC 1A as it is just as good as most channel strips out there...00
