I have had no compatibility issues as of this day.  I don't believe I have ever referenced the manual for this synth.   There is really no need in my opinion.  It behaves like a traditional synth and its has a surprisingly easy to use interface for a synth of its size.
Yes, the setup is simple.  The synth is broken up into 4 main categories: Main (where you find a lot of the regular controls), Edit, FX, and ARP (arpeggiator).  Each menu is clear and easy to work with.  Yes, the typical functions are easily accessible.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I run a Macbook with Ableton 8 and Logic 9 with Presonus hardware.  Yes, the software works great in this configuration.  It has never crashed on me and works well with my midi controllers (m audio).  As for performance, I give this thing a 10 out of 10.  The sounds are huge, rich and extremely full.  Building giant layered sounds is extremely easy and even more so satisfying.
I have been using this plugin for around a year.

OVERALL OPINION

What do I like best?  Everything!  The interface is brilliant and makes any level of user feel like a monster and the sounds are out of this world.  Even with the very first preset that opens when you start this program, simply playing a C major chord will drop your jaw for you.  Also, this thing has somewhere around 50GBs of sounds/samples to mess around with.  That's huge!!  Sometimes its a hindrance having to many choices and options, but in the case of the Omnisphere, the huge amount of options is a blessing.
If I had to say one thing I don't like, as any artist striving to be as original as possible, using presets is generally forbidden.  What I usually do is tweak a preset until I find a really good sound and its fairly unique.  With this synth, the presets are so awesome that you have to spend time (feels like wasted time) to try and find something else that is just as good but also unique.  That's not really Spectrasonics fault, more like my own pride's fault.  This plugin belongs to my studio partner, I believe he paid around $500.  Thats a lot of coin, but if you can afford it, then this thing will surely be worth it.
The precision and quality of sound is amazing.  10 out of 10 all the way.
I have used a bunch of different software synths (sonicsynth, sampletank, all of Native Instruments, etc...) and this one is up at the top of the list.  If you could only afford to buy one synth this year, this would have to be it.
Yes, I would buy it myself if my partner hadn't already.
