Interview à "Guitare et Claviers" No 156 d'Octobre 94

"Jeff Buckley's Equipment
Buckley's main guitar was a stock early-nineties blonde Telecaster®, borrowed from friend Janine Nichols at St Ann's Church. Jeff's mother, Mary Guibert said of her son's Tele®, “It was brand new when Janine lent it to him. She says the action was really stiff and she hadn't gotten comfortable with it. But I gave it back to her after the memorial service and she said it practically plays itself now. Every time he got a guitar he would have it fixed and tooled – he was very particular about the action. The voice, he didn't care if it was pretty or exact. But the guitar had to be right on. It was virtuosity for Jeff. He was all about precision.”
Buckley once said of the Telecaster®, “To me, it means Led Zeppelin I, Elvis, country. Without them there'd be no James Brown, no Prince, so it's kinda a perfect guitar.” Live, he plugged into a number of amps, including some Vibroverb® models."

"What comprised Jeff's gear?
Jeff Buckley had a black Les Paul that was one of his favorite guitars, but he (and Michael Tighe) would very often play Fender Telecasters. Both players ran biamped into Fender Vibroverbs and Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier combos. Buckley used an Alesis Quadraverb for shimmering, church-like textures.13
Other guitars that Jeff toured with include a red Rickenbacker, and a miked Gibson acoustic guitar.
In one case, what appeared to be a precious piece of Jeff's gear, really wasn't his own. The cream-colored Fender Telecaster that Jeff often used was borrowed from a St. Ann's Arts staff member in 1992. The Telecaster was returned to the staff member the night of the public memorial, August 1, 1997.
