The Yamaha TRB-4P is a mid level bass guitar with a good overall sound a good amount of versatility in tones. The bass has two single coil pick ups toward the neck, and also has a bridge piezo 5 control system pick up as well. I don’t know what the bass is made out of, but it’s got a very sturdy build and is made by the world’s largest musical instrument manufacturer, so I think it’s safe to say that they know what they’re doing.
UTILIZATION
The overall feel of the Yamaha TRB-4P definitely makes it an enjoyable instrument to play. The neck has a nice and easy feel to it that makes it easy to play up and down the neck without a problem. Controlling your tone also isn’t too hard, as there is a tone and volume knob for the single coil pick up as well as for controlling the piezo pick up. A manual won’t really be necessary here…
SOUNDS
In general, the Yamaha TRB-4P really boasts a good amount of low end response. It can really thump hard if that’s what you’re going for, but also with the piezo pick up has the chance to offer up a certain brightness as well. It’s definitely a versatile bass guitar to say the least between the different pick ups. I’ve used it for recording where I was the engineer and not the player, but I did get a chance to noodle around with it for a bit. We were running it through a Gallien Kruger RB400 bass head into an Ampeg cabinet. The results were a great bass sound that definitely held down the low end of the mix together well.
OVERALL OPINION
For a mid level bass guitar, the Yamaha TRB-4P definitely offers just about as much versatility as you’re going to get. The price is definitely a bargain considering the overall sound and feel of the guitar, as Yamaha can afford to do so since they are such a big company. I’d absolutely recommend this bass to anyone who wants a more than solid bass guitar at a stellar price.
