Roasted maple provides enhanced stability which means only a minimum amount of finish is required. This gives the neck the smooth feel of natural wood and a multi-dimensional sound that is more reflective of the player's nuances. Our standard grip profile is a medium size C shape with a slightly flatter fingerboard radius. (other grip profiles are available upon request).
The California Classic is equipped with our proprietary Raw Vintage pickups which contribute to a full "open" sound and tightness with a sweet spanky high end, firm lows, and mids with a great complexity and a punchy attack. The RV-60 Classic pickups are carefully hand wound at our Los Angeles shop.
Our guitar bodies are made from high grade tonewood which have been properly seasoned. We added neck joint stability with very tight tolerances for stable tuning. We went to great lengths to research the most appealing body shape with period specific contours for a great classic looks and comfortable feel.
Our finishes are significantly thinner and lighter in weight than conventional guitar finishes. Nitrocellulose Lacquer is known to have excellent aging characteristics for musical instruments. When the guitar ages properly it promotes a lower damping coefficient meaning greater warmth, longer sustain and louder volume.
Finally, we believe the guitar should play very easily without fatigue. Thus, it is essential to have a proper setup: adjusting the nut, the amount of bow in the neck, level of the frets and heights of strings for incredibly comfortable playability. Our highly trained luthiers carefully inspect each instrument and perform a highly detailed setup that brings out the full potential of the instrument insuring each guitar plays it's very best.
