# Creates a warm and pleasant sound by using the finest quality parts available.
# The super wide range gain control allows for enough gain for it to work as a distorion pedal when turned all the way up.
# Equipped with not only boost Gain but also Treble and Bass controls that allow you to adjust your sound anyway you like.
# True bypass for eliminating any signal interference when switched off.

This is an overdrive offered by Xotic that is said to be like a distortion pedal as it has enough gain on tap when cranked.

Controls: Gain, Volume, Treble, Bass.

UTILIZATION

Again, most pedals with this type of configuration doesn't require a manual. It's a simple matter of just plugging in, turning the knobs and playing.

The general configuration is simple, not as simple as regular overdrives with JUST the tone knob, level and gain but the AC booster offers treble and bass knobs to further tweak the signal.

SOUND QUALITY

This is a great sounding pedal. I've used it as both a mild overdrive and a distortion pedal. I've also recently learned that paul gilbert has one of these on his boards and kicks it in when he does some super shreddy passages with the gain all cranked out.

The sound itself is rather transparent, it doesn't add yet it does have a character of it's own. That character is that it's clear and slightly scooped to my ears. All notes are cleanly heard within a chord and leads pop out. Everything just seems to be clearer and more defined.

As an overdrive it is also quite good, transparent, thick but clear. The sound is very organic and open sounding, definitely not compressed.

OVERALL OPINION

I think all the xotic pedals, the BB AC and RC have a similar character to them. Where the signal is generally open sounding, thick and clear but not heavy. The differences would mainly be, as I've experienced, gain amount. The BB being the one with the most amount of gain on tap as far as I'm concerned, and this the AC being the next while the RC is meant for more of a clean boost.

I like all of these as they all have the same type of character, yet the AC seems to retain it's clarity when the gain is maxed compared to the BB and other pedals. Which I guess, was the design and purpose of the pedal. Noise is always a factor with pedals when the gain knobs are maxed. This is probably why Paul just does it when he's doing the shreddy stuff and turns it off immediately after.

Overall, great overdrive pedal from Xotic. Modern sounding, uncompressed, open, slightly scooped yet transparent and thick, but not heavy.
