This is hands down the easiest DAW that I have used out of the box. The Ableton Live 8 Suite version is the full experience - 4 discs jam packed with instruments, loops and samples bring to you a choice as to what you want to install and, once you make your selection, is quickly installed by Live 8 itself, further simplifying the process. I am working on a MacBook Pro and the set-up couldn't have been more intuitive. That said, like all other Digital Audio Workstations, Ableton Live 8 has a fairly steep learning curve. However, once hurdled this software is a piece of cake and provides the user with endless options customizing their digital expression of music. Along the way Live 8 makes it even easier by providing detailed explanations in the bottom left hand of the screen of any button, knob, setting, or library when the mouse is dragged over it.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

Ableton provides the user with endless options for performing live. Personally I trigger clips and samples in the session view using a Novation Launchpad, but always have my sequenced songs ready in the sequencing view in case I make a mistake. Very flexible and capable, Ableton is what you make it in a live performance. The opportunities are available, it is up to the performer to harness them.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall Ableton Live 8 Suite is the top of the line, all things included package that Ableton offers as a Digital Audio Workstation. Able to handle an enormous library of VSTs and instruments it allows versatility to the producer and DJ both and provides an easy to use environment for those new to the art and those more experienced. Although the live set up requires more fine tuning and exposure to the software it is the DAW that I recommend the most and rate the highest.
