To format the internal hard drive on the Akai MPC1000 follow the instructions below.

#1. Turn on Akai MPC1000
#2. Hit MODE button
#3. Hit PAD3
#4. Hit the up arrow button (under the DATA wheel) until you are in the Save To: field.
#5. Scroll the DATA wheel until it reads Save To: Hard Disk
#6. Hit F3 (UTILITY BUTTON)
#7. Hit F6 (DO IT)
#8. Hit F5 (DO IT) to confirm formatting.

To verify that the formatting was completed correctly follow the instructions below.

#1. Hit MODE button
#2. Hit PAD3
#4. Hit the up arrow button (under the DATA wheel) until it reads the Save To: field.
#4. Scroll the DATA wheel until it reads Save To: Hard Disk
#5. In the right hand bottom corner it will display the size of the hard drive. Example: FREE=76300MB
