Romanian police searching a woman suspected of theft found her hiding a mobile phone in her vagina.

They made the astonishing discovery after dialling the number and hearing a muffled ringing coming from somewhere under the woman's skirt.

A witness said he had alerted police when he saw Ruxandra Gardian steal the phone from a customer in a restaurant.
Police questioned the 34-year-old and were about to let her go when the witness suggested they ring the phone to determine whether she was hiding it.

On dialling the number they heard a sound coming from under Gardian's clothes and took her to police headquarters to be strip-searched.

Police officers conducting the search were shocked to find the phone stashed in the woman's vagina.

However, the owner of the phone has since refused to have it returned to him saying it was damaged beyond repair and he would be filing an insurance claim.

Officer Aurel Popescu commented: "I've seen a lot in my time as a policeman but never anything like this."

WASHINGTON, 19 avr 2005 (AFP) - - La compagnie aérienne américaine US Airways a vendu en quelques heures un millier de billets aller-retour sur l'est des Etats-Unis avant de se rendre compte d'une erreur sur le prix affiché: 1,86 dollar.

"Nous savons maintenant qu'il s'agit d'une erreur humaine" de saisie informatique, a expliqué mardi une porte-parole de la compagnie en Virginie (est), Amy Kudwa, et non d'un problème informatique.

Les prix affichés avaient été mis dans le système tard vendredi soir, pour des vols à l'arrivée ou au départ de huit petites villes de l'est américain. Leurs prix variaient d'une destination à l'autre.

"Tôt samedi matin, certains de ces vols se sont rapidement remplis", raconte Amy Kudwa. "Dans la matinée, on a commencé à rectifier les prix. Mais nous avons terminé ce processus en fin de journée, pendant que certains billets continuaient à partir" au prix de 1,86 dollar (2,41 EUR) avant les taxes, a-t-elle ajouté.

La compagnie a décidé d'honorer ses ventes de billets à mini prix, en espérant que ce genre d'erreur ne se reproduirait pas de sitôt.

US Airways traverse actuellement d'importantes difficultés financières. Elle a conclu jeudi un accord avec General Electric, l'un de ses créanciers, pour repousser de quinze jours la date butoir de dépôt du plan de restructuration au tribunal des faillites.
