    A savoir :

    8 pistes mono + 12 pistes mono = 20 pistes

Great recorder, but more suited for bands

    Tascam DP-32Publié le 13/02/15 à 17:41
I've had the DP32 for 7 months. It has been reliable since then, without a single crash or other problems at all.
Incredibly simple and fast to assign channels, link them to tracks and start recording. That's as simple as that!
I am not a professional on mixing / mastering, but I have a good ear for sound. The so "talked about" preamps issue is no issue at all. The recordings made on this machine are super clean and absolutely noise free. The only recorded sound that I find not to be absolutely true to the original is my KORG KRONOS "German Grand" piano sound. It simply isn't recorded with the original acoustic sound. But again, very close to it.

The reason I am changing to a YAMAHA AW2400, despite being a older machine, is that I want to sync it to a YAMAHA QY700 recorder. Also, the automation of the faders is an important factor. And finally the mixing / mastering options and 4 independent effects on each track are way beyond what the Tascam can do.
But then again, the AW2400 sold at the time (2006) for more than 2.000€...

And that is the part where I find the DP32 lacking: mixing options and effects available. You can only have a single effect to all channels while mixing and a second effect when mastering.
Also, if you want to program sweeping pan effects from left to right, for instance, you simply can't because you would have to turn and turn the pan knob endlessly without being able to achieve that effect at all.

But then again, for a small band this Multitrack Recorder is excellent. It lets you record up to 8 channels (inputs) at a time, in 16 or 24 bits. For a guy that works more with synthesizers, rhythm machines, etc, the AW2400 has more options available inside the machine.
Finally the construction quality it top notch. Sturdy, with excellent faders, knobs and buttons. Only the Gain knobs are a little flimsy. but that's the only exception.

    vs DAW

    Tascam DP-32Publié le 29/11/12 à 13:57
contenu en anglais (contenu en anglais)
The DP-32 is a portable studio that is ready to go with you wherever you need it to be. You don’t even have to have a computer to make a complete song. When I say complete I mean all way down to burning it to a CD. The Tascam DP-32 has a built in disk drive that will allow you to burn what you have just recorded right to a CD when you are complete. It has a 32 track playback and you can record up to 8 tracks simultaneously. The sampling rat is 44.1 kHz with a bit depth of 16 and 24.

    UTILIZATION

All of the main functions of this model are not hard to understand and you probably won’t need a manual to learn how to operate it, but it could take some time getting use to it if you are coming from a software type of DAW. You can pretty much do all of the same things that you can do with your DAW but it will be a litter different since there is not a big screen in front of you with a bunch of menus and help pop ups.

    SOUNDS

You can use this for any style of music, just like you would a DAW. You can get some really good and clean recordings with it and even do some decent on the spot mixing with it. This portable studio is very quiet with no hissing but it can get very hot if left on for a long time.

    OVERALL OPINION

The thing about the DP-32 that I don’t like is the screen, I like to have a bigger screen when I am working my songs and mixing. The screen on this unit is very small and almost impossible to do what you need to do with it. Also this unit is made to be a full portable studio, but so is a computer and Pro Tools. So which one would you rather carry around, a full unit weighing 5 times as much as a laptop or just a MacBook? It is just much easier to go the DAW route than to purchase this, 7 to 10 years ago this would have been a must have. But today there is no need for a unit like this anymore.
