On pourrait écrire des lignes et des lignes sur cette machine insensée qui peut à peu près tout faire. C'est un concentré de l'histoire de la lutherie électronique avec ses 9 moteurs de sons, et ses points forts sont inégalés, par exemple du côté des pianos acoustiques ou Fender.

Le clavier du 88 touches RH3 vaut celui d'un piano à queue d'une célèbre marque japonaise. L'engin semble solide comme un roc, tout en métal sauf les côtés en bois, et les finitions sont exceptionnelles. Cela respire la fiabilité et la robustesse.

La prise en main, eu égard aux possibilités presque infinies du monstre, est bluffante pour qui connaît la synthèse. L'ergonomie du trop petit écran (par rapport aux standards de 2019) aussi. Le Kronos est comme une Porsche : prêt à jouer tout de suite, ou machine de recherche et de performance pour le curieux, le passionné ou le scientifique. En fait, c'est une machine à rêver et à créer et je ne connais aucun équivalent sur le marché, même chez les grands concurrents qui ont autant de savoir-faire que Korg.

Je n'utilise plus de DAW depuis que je possède le Kronos. Seul me manque un piano roll qui est beaucoup plus facile à utiliser que l'interface proposée par le séquenceur. Sinon, on peut vraiment parvenir à tout faire ici sans PC. C'est même plus rapide, une fois le coup de main pris.

Les sons sont ébouriffants de diversité, et peuvent retracer n'importe quelle technologie d'environ tous les concurrents, analogiques ou digitaux, samplers ou non. Les processeurs d'effets sont de toute beauté et ne noient pas les sons sous les artifices. C'est une machine fine, elle n'utilise jamais les gros sabots et c'est ce qui la rend, de fait, extraordinairement complexe si on l'approfondit.

En revanche, revers de la médaille : certains sons restent froids, cliniques, difficiles à faire sonner car parfois inexpressifs. C'est ici que la concurrence, parfois, fait mieux. Par exemple, personne ne sonne comme le Kronos pour les instruments à clavier ou les basses, et tout son synthétique peut être reproduit à la perfection, voire mieux que l'original (cf. DX-7). Mais les sons acoustiques sont assez souvent décevants (guitare, cuivres, anches...) parce qu'ils sont créés au scalpel, relativement inexpressifs. Dans ces cas précis, il est préférable d'utiliser une machine complémentaire selon ses goûts.

Autre défaut : en mode workstation, seulement 16 pistes MIDI (un peu indigent en 2019), et une polyphonie trop vite atteinte et dépassée, surtout en utilisant les très beaux sons rythmiques très gourmands. La polyphonie dépend en effet des moteurs de sons utilisés, et je trouve qu'elle est trop vite limitée, ce qui bouffe des notes.

Enfin, problème de Karma : l'utilisation de cet outil intrinsèquement très complexe n'est pas assez transparente, et je n'aime pas une machine qui joue à ma place. Je veux garder la maîtrise, ce qui n'est pas toujours évident lorsque trop de paramètres nous échappent.

Ceci dit, pour moi, le Kronos est le big boss des synthés. La plus belle bête que je connaisse. Je ne regrette pas une seconde mon investissement, c'est une machine à sans cesse (re)découvrir. Inépuisable. Vraiment, une machine à rêves...

Korg Kronos 88 (2015)
C'est avec conviction que je me suis remis a la musique aprés avoir ecumé 2 arrangeurs milieu de gamme et une STAN, en me disant : je saute le pas et je tente le Kronos 2 88 de chez Korg.
Un grand ecart oui. Machine revendu 3 mois apres malgré tout les tutos possibles. C'est trop. Je suis improductif
Retour sur un arrangeur haut de gamme de la marque et STAN de coeur,clavier midi mais voila ce que j'en retiens malgre mon amateurisme :
- le toucher RH3 et les pianos tout simplement divins
- les nappes fines et les orchestrations puissantes
- le mode combinaison hallucinant et fluide
- les sonorités accoustiques echantillonnées tres réalistes.
- set list hyper pratique
- les potards les faders et le look de Supercopter

Ce que j'aurai souhaité pour bien m'y faire :
1. Un ecran multipoint 10 pouces ou plus et des menus par couleur car la navigation est laborieuse les sous menus s'emmelent. Pour quoi avoir tout les menus par onglets verticaux?
2. Un mode simplifié du Karma ,ou ajustable (arpegiator notemment) car c est une vrai bombe de creativité
3. Le sequenceur...pas trop compris le fonctionnement des patterns la dessus.
4. Et cela reglerai nombre de mes problemes, une sortie HDMI ou VGA pour deporté l'écran en travaillant ac une souris plutot que le doigt, sur un ecran a taille humaine permettant d'utiliser le KRONOS comme une STAN digne du nom. L'Editor ne suffit pas et le noir et blanc ca rappelle windows 2.1
5. Un processeur vocal integré

Cette machine me manque, si j'avais les moyens de l' ajouter à mon home studio actuel (acquis grace a sa revente) je remettrai bien les mains dans le cambouis. Tant pis je vise le Kronos 3!
