This is a pretty basic tuner. It has a 1/4" input for plugging in an electric instrument (guitar, bass) and a microphone for picking up acoustics. It's pretty much geared towards guitar tuning, as the only pitches that it really recognizes are the guitar's string pitches. It works OK with bass too, though I seem to struggle to get it to be really accurate when playing with bass. I have some history with this tuner. If you play acoustic guitar at home a lot, and don't usually run it through an amp or anything, I think that this might be a good choice for you. Even if you play electric at home a bunch, this will work great. It's basically not ideal for live situations, or any situation where there is going to be a lot of noise interference. In which case getting a pedal tuner is probably the best bet. Some of those can actually act as a power supply to all of your other pedals, assuming its the same make. But this tuner is ideal for the dabbler and dilettante, it's got a relatively good response and doesn't get wacky and inaccurate like some of the other tuners I've worked with, as long as you aren't in a noisy environment. That being said, the tuner is obviously limited in its functionality. If you are a beginner, or have no real interest in playing live or anything, it's not a problem, but since almost every real player is going to eventually play some sort of situation like that, this might be a bad choice. It could be worth investing in a higher quality tuner unless you never use a 1/4" cable, which is unlikely.
