UTILISATION
easy to use. Sounds expressive, classy, creates analog space in a mix. Focus's drums, and adds 3D to the stereo image. Used subtily it 'unchokes' a DAW mix, paradoxically for a compressor adding dynamic and can reduce the rms level while holding peak level. Or with heavier settings behaves more like a trad compressor. No sidechain ins, so bus-comp/master-bus duties only.
QUALITÉ SONORE
I did a blind shoot-out with neve / alan smart / api / ssl compressors @ vintage king [la], and consistantly chose the rolls over a wide range of music. [the rupert neve was nicest, but 3 times the price].
Transparent and clean [unlike the C2] until compressing hard. less low end than the ssl. less manipulation of midrange than the api [which excelled in mids] .
consistantly pleasing. When using too much gain-make-up hiss can appear [but we are talking >+20db !]. I usually use a minimum 1db, max 3db reduction. [no hiss at all at those make-up levels].
AVIS GLOBAL
used for 1 year. Most of my mixes pass through it. Happy to have a mix-bus comp that handles audio like a high-end unit, and is a third of the price of the big boys. Good value product.
