ok
I think your power supply has gone bad and has taken out VR8.
You need to replace VR8 and attend to a re-cap of your power supply too.
Re. Pin 4, this should a pin on the righthand side of the Sony IC if the unit was in front of you. I think -1.8v isn't right but thats probably a symptom of missing VR8.
I use better regulators than those inside, ones that can provide up to 2a in contrast to the Ensoniq Regulators which are 1a.
Are you able to Solder and you may have to replace a 3.3uf cap which requires a surface mount heat station.
Thanks for your advices. I occasionally do soldering, so I am ready to go for some parts replacement.
Would you have any recommandation/reference for the 2a regulators and surface mount heat station, or any will do?
hi,
i'll send you a list. i purchased from Farnell and they are europe wide.
however, surface mount is tricky and its best to try on something else first...maybe you have a spare PCB with some surface mount components you can try with?
Basic heat station will do but you need the fine nozzles
Ok, great. Yes I have some spare PCB to try out first.
I propose we continue with private messages, then I'll post a summary here when the unit is fixed.
