"Dear UAD-1 Owner:
When UA introduced the UAD-1 DSP Accelerator Card in 2001, we had no idea it would prove such an enduring success. We’re immensely proud of our original UAD-1 hardware — which paved the way for the UAD-2 platform in 2008 and our Apollo interface in 2012 — and we’re deeply thankful for your support as a longtime UAD-1 user.
The purpose of this email is to let you know that as of December 31, 2013, we will be shutting down the UAD-1 registration / authorization servers, card transfer functions, and support. We will also be discontinuing the sale of UAD-1 plug-ins in our online store.
UA has not introduced a new UAD-1 plug-in since 2009; and our planned deactivation of the 12-year old UAD-1 servers is a necessary step for us to move the UAD platform forward into 2014 and beyond.
Please note that, in every other way, your UAD-1 card and plug-ins will continue to work exactly as they always have. After December 31st, you will still be able to download your final UAD-1 authorization file, but you will not be able to make any changes to it — including adding plug-ins and/or transferring card ownership.
If you would like to upgrade to the UAD-2 platform, we have a limited-time offer:
Upgrade to a UAD-2 or Apollo on or before Dec. 31st, 2013, and receive a $200 “Last Chance” plug-in coupon redeemable toward the purchase of any UAD plug-in by Feb. 28, 2014.
Remember, your UAD-1 plug-in licenses automatically cross-grade to the UAD-2 versions — free of charge — when you upgrade to a UAD-2 or Apollo.
Whether you choose to upgrade, or to continue using your UAD-1, please know that we appreciate your support for Universal Audio."
Citation :
After January 1, 2014, it will still be possible to:
Use your UAD-1 device with UAD v6.1 or lower software
Download your final (static) UAD-1 authorization file
Use your UAD-1 with UAD-2 devices in a mixed system (UAD v6.1 or lower only)
Cross-grade your UAD-1 licenses to UAD-2 licenses at no charge
