The Big Fish First Call Horns is a sample library of horns that is powered by Kontakt Player. You can download the Kontakt player for free if you don’t already have it installed on your computer. You can use the Big Fish First Call Horns for Mac or PC because Kontakt player can be used on a Mac or PC. I have heard you can use the Big Fish First Call Horns with a different host but I have not personally used it with anything other than Kontakt Player.
There are 7 section instruments and 9 solo instruments. There are over 20 individual riffs and 8 combination patches that have sounds stacked together to create a full and rich patch that you can use without having to even add any effects to touch any EQ.
Setting up the Big Fish First Call Horns was simple, because it is just installing the sound into your Kontakt player. You could have some issues with your system and Kontakt player though, I have experienced a few small problems with the Kontakt player but nothing major.
My favorite sounds and instrument in the Big Fish First Call Horns is the Trumpet Open Solo, it gives you options to work with while using the Trumpet Open Solo like Legato, short, punch, stabs, flutter and a few other ones. The Trumpet Open Solo and Trumpet Straight Mute Solo are the most realistic sounding patches that the Big Fish First Call Horns has to offer. All of the other instruments that come with the Big Fish First Call Horns are also very good. My least favorite sounds were the Baritone Sax Section, I didn’t feel like it sounded clean enough to me.
Overall you cannot go wrong with getting a solid brass and horns sound library and at this price you don’t have anything to use. No matter what kind of music you make you can always have some horns in it!
