This is a versatile large diaphragm condenser mic that is designed for studio use. It is very expensive, so you wouldn't want to take this one on the road with you. It requires phantom power being a condenser mic. The frequency response is extremely smooth and balanced throughout the entire spectrum. You have your choice of polar patterns with this mic as well, with a switch for cardioid, omni, and figure 8. If you are lucky enough to have 2 of these, you can use these in a M/S stereo position with one in cardioid and one in figure 8, which sounds phenomenal with these particular mics. There is also a 10db pad that is switchable in case you need a little bit more headroom.

OVERALL OPINION

Wow. I have been able to use this at a very nice studio nearby a few times, and it blows me away every time. This is one of the nicest mics I have ever heard. I recently used it on a female vocalist, and the results are breathtakingly realistic. It is so smooth and lifelike, it has to be heard to be believed. The transients are super crisp, and the highs are brilliant. I have used a lot of condenser mics, and this one is definitely a champ. I have also used this to record a small string ensemble in a stereo pair, and it was as if they were jumping out of the speakers on playback. These are very expensive mics at over $3,000, but if you could afford these you know that these are manufactured to an extremely high standard. With a price so high, the value becomes questionable, but if you want the best, this is pretty much it. I don't own one, but have used it and wish I could get one.
