If you're not familiar with these, they were the quintessential 60's American kick drum mic, and if you want THAT sound, they definitely do it. And they're great for lots more; personally I really like this mic in combination with a Royer 121 on guitar amps. A little-known fact is that the 666 was the mic used by George Benson for his vocal on "This Masquerade," which sold over 4 million copies. It seems Al Schmitt stuck it up for a scratch, and they loved that take so much that it ended up on the final mix. Thereafter, George refused to use any other vocal mic for several albums !
