Le premier canal produit un son clean ou crunch entre Fender et Vox. C’est bien plus beau que les cleans Mesa Boogie habituels à mon avis.
La puissance de cet ampli est vraiment impressionante. Je le branche sur un baffle blackstar silverline équipé de 2 HPs Celestion V type et ça dépote. Je suis sûr que même en 15w on peut jouer en club.
Il n’y a pas de contrôle des médiums sur l’ampli mais je n’en ressent pas le besoin tant le son est riche. Il n’y a pas de contrôle des médiums sur l’ampli mais je n’en ressent pas le besoin tant le son est riche. Un tone cut est présent ( présence inversée) et il peut devenir un master volume lorsque vous le tirez. Un switch top boost vous permet de faire cruncher ce canal facilement. Ce canal est aussi très bon pour le jazz. Le mode 40w vous permet d’avoir plus de headroom en son clair.
Le deuxième canal sera plutôt réservé aux saturations avec un mode Tweed ( très Fender et réussi). un mode H1( plutôt Marshall et très réussi dans son style), et un mode H2 ( boogie). Ce canal est vraiment plus riche en haut médiums et ne conviendra que pour des styles blues, blues rock et hard. Ne comptez pas faire de métal avec le Transatlantic, il n’est pas conçu pour. On est plutôt sur le terrain de Hendrix,SRV garage rock et hard. Le mode tweed est utilisable en son clair aussi, et produit un son similaire au twin.
Points positifs:
- le son pro et vintage en clair et en saturé
- la versatilité des voicings proposés et leur caractère vintage.
- la puissance largement suffisante pour jouer chez soi et sur scène, grâce au selecteur de puissance.
- la possibilité de jouer à bas volume sans perte du caractère de l’ampli.
- la dynamique de l’attaque et l’articulation des notes que l’ampli retranscrit.
- la richesse harmonique du son
- la taille de l’ampli et le petit poids 10kg max, qui permet un transport facile. Une sacoche de transport avec bandoulière, permet de ranger la tète avec le cable, la pédale switch et son jack.
- les corrections efficaces.
- la présence d’une boucle d’effets.
- d’habitude j’aime pas boogie en son clair, mais là ça n’a rien à voir avec boogie, sauf la dynamique et la patate.
- une palette de sons allant du surf au hard en passant par le Jazz.
Points negatifs:
- Une reverb et une boucle d’effets qui buzze pas mal et c’est gênant à bas volume
- le prix élevé sur le net, même d’occaz car on la trouvera rarement à 700€.
- il aurait été interressant de pouvoir choisir pas 2, mais 3 canaux avec 3 voicings différents assignables au pied. Mais je trouve quand même mon bonheur avec 2.
- Ampli assez bruyant, dommage pour l’enregistrement à bas volume.
En conclusion
Je ne pensais pas qu’une tête d’ampli avec des EL84 en section puissance pouvait envoyer autant de patate. Quand au son, il est divin et se démarque du son mesa boogie par son approche plutôt vintage des grands classiques américains et anglais de l’ampli guitare. Seul regret: j’aurais aimé une reverb plus silencieuse à bas volume. Cette tête qui ne se fait plus, est vraiment plus qu’excellente et s’il n’y avait pas ce petit buzz de reverb ni ce bruit, il atteindrait le niveau de l’ampli parfait ( pour moi bien sûr)

What will Mesa Boogie think of next? These amps started out as great lunch box amps for the on the go musician. They have been so popular that now they are offering them in a high watt version and in a combo version as well. The tone of this amp is remarkable. With the ability to go from cleans on one side of the amp and kick it over to channel two with the option to have another clean or crunch and even high gain mode is fantastic.

SOUNDS
The first channel is primarily the clean channel but if you give it a little juice you can get a nice Fender breakup and then take it even further for a sweet Vox Ac30 type tone.
The second channle has a Tweed, High gain 1, and High gain two. It also has a boost function on the gain. You can turn this on an off on any mode. The tweed is a Fender type tone and the high gain 1 is a British type voicing. The final mode high gain 2 is more of the Mesa style lead and rhythm tones.
One thing to keep in mind is that there is no mids for EQing. So you need to be happy dialing in your tone with only a Treble and Bass.
OVERALL OPINION
These are great little amps for the money. They aren't cheap but will give you an array of tonal options. At new these amps come in at around $1500. This might be a little on the high side for this amp but still a decent price for what it was.
I would recommend this amp to anyone who needs a good gigging amp that will not be a failure on stage. This is a also a good amp for recording some various tones. The distortion is not going to be anything like a Dual Recto so if you think you'll get that tone then save your money. I recommend trying this amp out first because it is a bit different then the standard Mesa tones you have come to know. Plus the lacking of mids is a breaker for me on this amp. For the price Mesa has many other options that would be king over this amp.10
