I had played on a fender hot rod deluxe and a blues junior before that. I found the roland blues cube hot while searching for a more practical amp. I don't have a car, play 'round 50 gigs a year and have to play for radios and tv shows.
My bands are mainly pop and americana oriented so I was looking for something clean, with a bit of grit but it had to be practical and easy to transport.

I've been reluctant. Very reluctant to purchase a transistor amp. I'm a tube guy, playing an old gretsch through my amp without any pedal. So when I saw the amp I wondered if it could work with my style (I play with my fingers). But recently I had had to play through a roland cube for a show in a bar and I had surprisingly discovered I could do something out of it.

Now this blues cube hot is great. It's not a tube amp but it has its own voice. I read a lot of reviews (in many languages) and what always happens is a comparison with tube amps. This is not a tube amp. It works its own way and this is how it works for me:

- normal channel (I would call this channel the pedal platform channel): your friends are the volume and the master. turn them the way you want. they work well. eq is great and reactive. the reverb is modern but that's alright with me...it's a good modern one. this channel is a perfect platform for your pedals.

- tone on channel: you push the tone button and "oh!" here's your tube amp. Sparkles and everything you like in a tube amp. It is very reactive and it's not a simple emulator. It is the real voice of this amp. It's fender-ish but with the eq the vox lads will be satisfied. For me it sounds like a roland blues cube. It's clean, with a lot of headroom (30w) but it can crunch nicely.

- boost channel on: will please the guys who love dirt. Test it before you buy it. Personnally it's not the kind of dirt I like but just because I prefer crunchy things.

- both buttons (tone and boost) on: leave a note for your neighbours. this amp can wreck their ears.(and yours)

To conclude: I love this amp. I'll take it with me for gigs and tours. Will I play on an ac30 or a princeton when I can? of course! but meanwhile, when I cannot take my hot rod deluxe with me, or an ac30 or anything like those with me cause they're so heavy, I'll catch the 12kg blues cube hot. And sincerely,I don't give a damn whether it's a tube or transistor amp. It just sounds good.

Update 2018: this amp changed almost all my understanding of my sound. It became my main amp and I rarely use the backline when provided. I took it to gigs, festivals, radios, studios and it's just perfect. I play a strymon flint in front of it ant that's it! It's the best amp I've ever owned.
