Hufschmid Guitars H6 Grafted Walnut top

This is a Hufschmid H6 Single Cut, Mahogany body, with Grafted Walnut Top. 24 Frets, Hufschmid pickups, Hipshot bridge.

UTILISATION

Balances very well on a strap, I tried it at a few levels. Certainly lighter then any Les Paul ever. I would estimate 6-7 pounds maybe? Fret access is exceptional. I would say this, Patrick does some of the absolute best fretwork I have ever seen. Plus, in my opinion, the neck volute is not only comfortable, but sexy as hell.

SONORITÉS

Sound is extremely versatile. Really cleans up nicely, but is able to really roar when you give it the gain. The clean tones very very delicate, I thought it would work well for everything from jazz and Blues to metal.

Thoughts. I wasn't sure what to expect, I find many luthier have a certain vestigial or homemade feel to them, while this one did have a different feel to it, it felt nothing like a sterile, mass-produced guitar. Wood choices are superb. A seriously well-thought out collaboration of sapele and walnut creates a very well-balanced tonal palate. It cleans up very nicely, but REALLY shines with higher gain settings. Fretwork is excellent and consistent throughout the fretboard, polished, level and even, with ends finished perfectly. Neck pocket is very tight. Fit and finish is really incredible, no discernible flaws whatsoever, side-dots glow very brightly and are straight. One unique feature I fell in love with is the headstock volute. The only word I can think to define it, is sexy. Neck heel is very comfortable and allows full access to all the higher registers. I love the beveled top and the hipshot bridge is a nice touch, as well as the tuners. Overall, not many luthiers I put up with my absolute favorite luthier, Ken Lawrence. I make not secret that the man builds absolutely phenomenal, flawless instruments and has a keen sense of business ethics, as well as 30+ years of experience. My experience with Hufschmid is not only that these guitars are of a similar caliber, but these are produced with phenomenal attention to detail, craftsmanship is top-notch, design is well-thought out and brilliant, but also one more thing. I always said Hufschmid had an eye for wood unlike any other luthier I had seen, the natural beauty of the woods were always put together extremely well and the eye for the wood shines through. Now, I know that he truly understands the tonal proprieties of these woods as well. It sounds just as good as it looks. As far as I am concerned, and all the guitars I have been through in my playing time, Hufschmid is in my top two luthiers. It will be SCARY to see his guitars when he is sixty. They will be that good.

Ca faisait un petit moment que je lorgnais sur le travail de M. Hufschmid, j'ai décidé de me lancer début 2013.
Très franchement je n'y connais pas grand chose en bois, nous avons longuement discuté avec Patrick afin qu'il cerne mes besoins en fonction de ma pratique musicale. Il m'a expliqué ses choix, j'ai appris plein de choses :D !

La construction a pris dans les 5 semaines.

UTILISATION

En sortant la guitare du carton je me suis de suite aperçu que c'était d'un niveau de qualité bien supérieur à tous les autres instruments que j'ai pu jouer.
La finition est parfaite, tout est ajusté au millimètre, ça respire la qualité et la solidité !
La finition true oil laisse ressortir tout le grain du bois, magnifique.
L’accastillage Hipshot est très précis, la tenue d'accord est parfaite, même en jouant comme un sourd la guitare ne se désaccorde pas.
Le manche est très agréable, ni trop fin ni trop épais, je me suis senti à l'aise dès la première seconde. Il faut noter que Patrick réalise le profil du manche à partir d'un dessin de votre main et ca se ressent !
Au quotidien c'est un vrai bonheur, une guitare de caractère qui ne ressemble à aucune autre.

SONORITÉS

Le gros point fort : le son, pardon LE SON !
C'est juste bluffant, tout ressort, malgré un niveau de sortie énorme rien n'est brouillon, aucune fréquence n'est "bouffée" par une autre.
Les micros (handwired sur mesure) sont adaptés à mon style de musique (métalcore etc...) donc très gros niveau de sortie, évidemment en disto c'est la fête, tout y passe, rock, métal, death, shred etc... Tout reste propre sauf si les doigts partent à côté bien sûr :D!
La chose intéressante est que ca sonne terrible en clair et en crunch aussi. Au début je m'attendais pas à pouvoir envoyer un peu de funk vu ce que j'avais demandé comme micros.
Tous les styles passent à la perfection en laissant bien transparaitre le jeu.

En comparant le son à mes autres guitares (une en EMG 81/85 l'autre en duncan SH4/SH2) le résultat est encore plus marqué : on dirait que le son des autres guitares est étouffé et terne.

AVIS GLOBAL

Au bout d'un mois toujours le même bonheur de jouer avec cette guitare, je touche plus aux autres...

C'est un instrument fabuleux et réalisé par un passionné, ca se sent...

Polyvalence, qualité exemplaire, je ne peux que vous inciter à aller voir le travail de Patrick Hufschmid, vous ne serez pas déçu !
