Website comming that will keep you informed by fourth quarter 2006

Any qualified Rhodes technicians wishing to be factory authorized for warrantee service repair can register when the company website comes on line.

Hi again!
It's going to be a modernised MkV. Check out what I got from Jim Williams, who designed the preamps.

Freddan

If that's all you want, order a stripped down stage model and go away.
If you want active preamp/EQ/vibrato, get the active version.
If you want MIDI, get it. It will have a display for midi mapping, nothing related to the piano's sound.

Hammers and tines are based on the MKV technology. Tines are made from the same alloys and are from the same source. The action is fast without the key bounce common in older designs. These things PLAY. Regulation and feel is as the MKV. Tines are backwards compatable, but I don't think the company is interested in suppling parts for older pianos.

Tips are the same rubber grades, from soft in the bass to the rubber coated wood tips for the highs. We may make a "hard hammer" version as that's what Stevie Wonder likes and that's the sound cloned to a DX7 used on almost all pop ballads in the last 20 years. Run that through a detune pitch shifter and it's magic.

It will weigh around 85 lbs for a 73. We are very concerned with the portability of these systems that were so difficult to move when made of plywood. One can then carry a 61 in and then a 55 lb. speaker next without needing help.

The 61 key will be passive only. It will be lighter than the older 54. The new 61 key passive is very affordable.

The preamps are using new silicon/germainium technology and noise is very low. There is a 3 band EQ with a mid sweep range of 100 to 8k hz, + - 15 db. Residual buzz from the pickups is also reduced from better shielding. The pickup coils will be made by Turbo-Jet, just like before. They will be better matched than any other previous Rhodes offering improved signal to noise ratios. I can get Hendrix like feedback from this thing, it's so powerful. As a guitar player, I'm particularly interested in a player becoming the "Hendrix" of Rhodes. I set these puppies up so vast feedback effects can be had, a creative lad would explore all these new possibilities with volume, feedback and effects.
The pianos do the feedback thing without any fuzz or boost pedals, right out of the box. The bottoms weigh 85 lbs and crank. I've been enjoying the feedback tones and screams right from a stock keyboard and bottom. I insisted that the powered speakers have enough power to be limited by feedback, not amplifier or speaker limitations. Just hold down some keys and turn the volume to 8 or 9 and it all happens.

They will have the usual "accessory" jacks to allow interfacing to your beloved MXR Phase 90 while offering a passive output for external processing or a DI right off the pickups.
The vibrato rate is very wide, from very slow to chattering fast, great for effects. It's a very smooth optically based triangle waveform pan circuit.

If you want the bottom speaker, just pop it underneath, it's ready to interface. The speaker bottom is very powerful but also very light. It has wheels and a great stand/support system. BTW, we are offering satelite speaker cabs with the light weight high powered speakers. These weigh in at 55 lbs and should do at least 300 watts when done. Yes, it's very light weight stuff utilizing new construction materials and techniques. No plastic JBL style cases here, it's all wood materials for natural sound.

The pedals are improved for faster set up without rubbing.

What ever the price is set at, it will be reasonable for the quality and features offered. One can conclude this will be a great product and will find favor with many musicians who don't want the aggravation of maintaining a 30+ year old piano or those who want additional performance and sound quality. We all realize some vintage old "rhodents" will hate anything new, but they already have their old dinosaurs so they are not the market focus.
BTW, don't miss the "Tribute to Harold Rhodes" concert Thursday night in the lobby as Patrice Rushen (sp), George Duke, Joe Z and Jeff Lorber all jam out on the new pianos!

Open the top and grab some tines and bend um, it's great. Hit the piano, drop it on the floor, swing it around (the 61 anyway), stab the keys with daggers, it's all good. Then you can burn it up at the end of the show. Make a video for us though, we will want to see that.
Are you glad that Roland or Yamaha arn't making these? I am. I hate most of their cheap plastic crap, but I'm weird. I like organic.

Jim Williams,

Audio Upgrades
