The Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator is an analog guitar pedal designed to make your electric guitar sound like an acoustic guitar. It has a 1/4 inch input as well as two 1/4 inch outputs - one to send to your amp and one is a line out. It is powered by either a nine volt battery or a nine volt power supply. It is not rackable as it is a stomp box.
UTILIZATION
The configuration of the pedal is pretty basic. You've got a knob to choose between different modes that includes standard, jumbo, piezo, and enhance. The other knobs control body, top, level, and reverb. It is easy to get a few different sounds from this, and is really an EQ that is specific for making your guitar sound more like an acoustic. I don't have the manual but this pedal is easy enough to use that I never had a need for one.
SOUND QUALITY
The sound quality of the AC-3 is about average. It is pretty hard to simulate an acoustic guitar with an electric, and this does an okay job of doing it. It won't blow you away, but does have a good amount of control to zero in on sounds that you might be looking to get. I have only used this with electric guitar, as that is what it is made for.
OVERALL OPINION
I've been using the Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator for about two years. I wanted it so that I wouldn't have the switch between acoustic and electric guitars during a live performance. However, I have found that it is worth it switch as you can't really replicate an acoustic with an electric. This being said, this pedal does a decent job of emulating it. If you really want an acoustic sound, just use an acoustic guitar!
