TC Electronics has been around for a long time. They are not that popular among guitar players but they have a wide range of effects they offer. The Mojomojo is supposed to be kind of an old school overdrive pedal. The pedal certainly has old school looks. In this pedal you get a slim chassis. The pedal has a brown sparky finish. The controls are simple and clearly labeled. There are 4 knobs on the face with a mini switch and a large single footswitch. The 4 knobs are large and clearly labeled. The top two knobs are Drive and Level. The knobs below them are Bass and Treble. The mini switch in the middle is a voice switch. In the middle of the pedal is a bright red switch that tells you when the thing is activated.

UTILIZATION

This pedal has good simple and rugged construction like most metal pedals. There is not much to go wrong on a simple analog overdrive pedal like this. The knobs are big enough that you can adjust them with your foot. The LED is bright so you have no excuse for not knowing if you are on or off. The pedal offers true bypass switching which should be standard nowadays.

SOUND QUALITY

The OD sound from this pedal is alright. It is not anything very special. You can really kick an amp over the top with the sound from the pedal but the sound itself is not that unique. The pedal offers a pretty vintage overdrive tone but you can get a similar tone from many other pedals. With the drive all the way up the gain is not that much. It is like a thick classic rock gain tone. This pedal does not pack much of a punch. This is more of a sizzle on top pedal than a really thick tone pedal. With the voice switch up you get more midrange in the tone. This sounds good for cleans but it can also give you a really honky annoying sound if you are running more drive.

OVERALL OPINION

The sound from this pedal is not that unique. It sounds like just about any decent old amp at the edge of break up. There is not a lot of gain or tone to be had with this pedal. If you are looking for a classic distortion sound but for some reason do not want to get it from an amp this is a good pedal. Otherwise all the tones you can get form this pedal you can pretty much get from any decent amp or any other overdrive pedal.
