If you are a huge fan of Van Halen and need a quality phase pedal than this is for you. With the Frankenstein EVH graphics this is a must for the guitar player who is going for the Eruption tone. It is a simple Phase 90 type pedal in that it only has one control knob. In addition this pedal it has a mini button to switch from modern block logo phase to script phase. So when engaging the script button there you will find the early Van Halen phase tones. This is where this pedal lives in my opinion. Keep in on the block logo side and you will get new phase tones coming from today's modern music. However, the change is very subtle. The phase knob sweeps just the regular Phase 90 and the range is extremely pleasant
UTILIZATION
Just like its big brother the Phase 90 it only has one control knob. In addition this has basically an EVH resurrection mini button. This button goes into script phase from block phase which essentially the phase waveform is changed. So basically this makes this phaser two phases in one. Which is a nice option to have.
The manual has some suggested setting that will help you get that Eruption tone. So that was a nice feature
SOUND QUALITY
If you like the simplistic value of a phase 90 and are a fan of EVH then this is the pedal for you. It has that all so recognizable Frankenstein graphics which are very cool.
This pedal needs to go in front of an overdriven plexi Marshall of some sort. with a variac on the end of course. You'll need a super Strat like the EVH Charvel art series with the same graphics if you can find one used. Couple that with a 4x12 with G13H30 speakers from Celestion and you'll have EVH's tone in hand. doesn't mean you'll sound like him but at least you be there with the equipment.
OVERALL OPINION
I love this pedal! I love the graphics and the option to go from block to script phaser. It looks so good on the pedal board. Couple this with an EVH flanger with the white Frankenstein graphics and you'll be set. This pedal is priced at around $130 bucks which is a little higher than the regular phase 90, but still a great price for a great pedal.
I would recommend this pedal to any fan of Eddie and anyone who needs a simple phase pedal that has a nice option to change from script to block phases.
