Hi all,
although I am using a newly created account for this post, I have been a long-time subscriber to the Wavestation list for many years now. I bought my first Wavestation second hand back in 1992 or so - and have been using it ever since.
Over the years, I was able to aquire the A/D version as well as the famous Zadok SAM1 PCM card simulator. However, I always found it limiting that there is so little RAM space available for new sounds. Also, wouldn't it be great to use PCM "banks" someone else has created on the SAM1? Or backup your own PCM cards, just in case?
I have a video up at Vimeo that shows a first proof of concept of a project that allows me exactly this: read, store, and simulate both PROG- and PCM-cards with a little microcontroller-based DIY device. Mass storage for this device is a common SD card. Its design is based on a MIDIbox core board running MIOS, an operating system developed by Thorsten Klose (see http://midibox.org ).
