Following our tradition "Friends First", we offer current SPS-1 owners
tempted by the new UW features to upgrade at a very special price. The
friend upgrade offer is just the price difference between the SPS-1 and the
SPS-1UW, plus shipping. We will offer up to 200 upgrades at this price. But
in order to avoid long service queues we will release the upgrades in turns.

We're aiming at less than two weeks of service time. However we reserve the
need of up to one month service time would we face unexpected inconveniences.
We promise however to do our best to service all units as quickly as we
possibly can!

The price for the upgrade is EUR/USD 400 plus one way shipping to customer
of EUR/USD 40, making a total of EUR/USD 440. The Euro price includes 25%
sales tax as required by European law.


How to take advantage of the UW friend offer

As this mail is sent we're kicking off by offering 50 upgrades. 50 more are
planned to be offered in two weeks. Only friends registered before today's
date will be able to take part in the offer of today.

Sign into your friend account. If you registered before today's date you
should find the offer at the top of the page. After your order is paid you
will receive instructions within 36 hours on how to proceed and where to
send your SPS-1. You will receive a RMA-number which you will need to get
the upgrade carried out.

We will offer three service points in the world: USA, UK and Sweden.

For Japan and France we have distributors offering qualified repair centers.
For Japan, please contact Fukusan and for France MESI.

It is of highest importance that you do not send your unit anywhere before
you have received the instructions on how to proceed from Elektron. Failing

SPS-1UW FAQ

1) Wow, this is an expensive sampler!

No, this is a very extra user configurable SPS-1 drum machine.

2) 2048kb is a tiny amount of memory compared to modern samplers/computers.

2048kb is a lot of high speed DSP memory. The addition of samples follows
the Machinedrum philosophy of lean and mean. The User Waves are mainly
intended for percussion samples, for which 2Mb is quite spacious. Also,
having the samples in DSP memory allows for all the special Machinedrum
tricks and features.

3) How do I program the ROM-flash samples?

Download using the MIDI sample dump standard. There are several programs
supporting this standard, for example Sound Forge. But there is a lack of
freely available programs. Elektron has therefore developed the C6 sample
dump utility for Mac OSX and Windows. It will be available for download
from the Support page of Elektron within short.

4) Isn't MIDI sample dump slow?

For short samples like percussion it is ok. If you want to speed up your
life we will later offer an optional Turbo-MIDI USB interface, offering up
to 10x the normal MIDI speed.

5) Why no Smart media / Compact flash / Memory stick?

The SPS-1UW keeps all samples in an internal hi-speed flash, which means
that it is fully self contained and offers a very quick startup time.

6) What are the RAM-machines?

The RAM machines can sample from either the external inputs or internally
from the main output A/B.

Example for use of RAM external recording:
* Connecting a turntable/DJ-mixer to Audio In A/B
* Sync the beats
* Record up to two bars with a RAM-RECORD machine
* Do instant remixes using a RAM-PLAY machine.

Examples for use of RAM internal recording:
* Record main output A/B
* Replay with effects
* Replay with altered pitch / start / stop / etc for weird delay / resample
effects. Explore!

7) Will the SPS-1UW mean that you drop the support for the SPS-1?

Rather the opposite. Both models share the same OS, so both models will
benefit from bug fixes etc. We will continue to produce and sell both SPS
models. This enforces the SPS-1 as the sharpest Beat Box for the future.
