    Audix f6Publié le 30/10/11 à 02:30

The Audix D6 is a microphone with a dynamic element and a polar pattern set to a tight hypercardioid. It is designed for lower instruments, and is part of Audix's fusion series, a series of microphones designed with budget in mind. However, it does share qualities with the D series, in that it was designed with percussive sources in mind with high sound pressure level handling capabilities. The microphone, in typical Audix fashion, boasts a hypercardioid pickup pattern, which means that one can isolate instruments and reduce bleed. This is why Audix is great in the studio. It has a fairly typical frequency response that begins at 40 Hz and goes all the way up to 16,000 Hz. It is a fairly typical microphone in most senses, except Audix puts some of their alleged mojo into the microphone. For example, the microphone sounds pre-EQ'd to match the quality of the more professional D6, however, the f6 "boasts a little more midrange punch," making the f6 better for more thunderous styles of music. As with all of Audix's high sound pressure level microphones, the Audix f6 is low gain to cope with this, and lightweight and compact, and therefore very easy to set up. It can also mic up other low frequency instruments, such as the bass and larger tom drums.

    OVERALL OPINION

In use, I have found that the Audix f6 is exactly what Audix says it is. It seems that the cheaper microphones from Audix are not just less quality version of the more expensive types, but quite honestly just different flavors. I can, however, imagine how the D6 would be easier to work with than the f6. However, one should never go into a microphone purchase with the intention of EQ'ing it anyway when another microphone is more suitable for the job, so I wholeheartedly recommend the f6 to people who want that certain type of music.
