Hello and thank you for subscribing to Sound On Sound. If you're a regular reader you'll know what we're about but if you're relatively new to our magazine, then a few words of background might be useful.

Sound On Sound is a privately owned magazine, started over 20 years by recording and music technology, enthusiasts for like-minded people. Essentially we focus on recording, using both hardware and software, as a well as electronic musical instruments.

[...]

Because Sound On Sound is privately owned, there are no shareholders to interfere with how the magazine is run so the bulk of the profits can be reinvested in improving what we do. We pride ourselves in not employing journalists - every one of our writers and all of our editorial team are either musicians or recording engineers (often both) enabling them to call on a wealth of personal experience.

Apparently we are also unusual in that we accept phone calls from readers with queries and will help whenever possible. As well as helping individual readers, this also helps us build up a picture of which areas need greater coverage. Sound On Sound was also the first magazine to go out into the field to help readers find practical fixes for their studio problems at home and we now also remix readers' tracks with audio examples on our website.

We pride ourselves on the integrity of our reviews, so if a product has problems, we'll let you know, whether or not the manufacturer advertises with us. If everything a magazine reviews comes out as seemingly perfect, then those reviews have no value at all, either to the customer or to the manufacturer. We also endeavour to bring you new product reviews as quickly as possible after that product becomes available, so while other publications may occasionally seem to get there first by printing padded-cut news releases dressed up as reviews, we wait until there's a production model available and then we test it properly. When we do present a product preview based on pre-production information, we make it clear that it isn't a review.

In addition to presenting reviews that go into great detail, we also present numerous practical recording itechniques features designed to help you make better recordings. These are so popular that many colleges and universities use them as course references! We also offer in-depth interviews with studio engineers and music producers, both current and 'old school'. We can learn a lot from these professionnals and we do our level best to get them to divulge their production secrets so that we can all try them.

[...]

To us, Sound On Sound isn't merely a job but a way of life and an obsession. We feel very privileged to be in the position where we can talk to equipment a manufacturers, musicians, engineers and producers and we like to treat our readers as a circle of friends. Thank you for becoming one of them.
